Established in 1833, the Whigs are one of America's oldest mainstream political parties. We were the original party of Abraham Lincoln and four other U.S. Presidents.
For the past 150 years, the United States has been governed by a political duopoly made up of the same two parties. Today, both of these parties have been captured by their respective extremes, the culmination of a process that began in the 1960s. Big government liberals and "multicultural" practitioners of divisive identity politics have taken over the Democrats. Meanwhile, religious conservatives allied with Wall Street preachers of dysfunctional “free markets” lord it over the Republicans.
These narrow-minded but well organized factions wield power that is far out of proportion with their actual level of popular support. As a result, our political institutions are gridlocked, our economy slouches from one bubble to the next, our deficits skyrocket, and our middle class suffers. Meanwhile, powerful lobbies dedicated exclusively to the pursuit of their special interests line the pockets of politicians on both sides, thereby keeping the status quo in place.
American Liberalism and Conservatism are exhausted ideologies. An incorruptible new Centrist force with a bold vision for America is needed to break the logjam and put an end to the existing duopoly. The Modern Whig party is that force. Join us!

August 6, 2011: Our reaction to the debt ceiling debate and US credit downgrade
The recent debt limit “debate” and resulting “deal”, whose text can be found at http://rules.house.gov/Media/file/XML_112_1/WD/DEBT_016.XML, once again showed how deeply dysfunctional our two-party system has become. The “debate” was really just a series of tone-deaf pontifications in which each side lectured the other and the American people on the virtues of “drawing lines” and “standing firm” based on its respective ideological dogma while the country teeteres on the brink of default and economic collapse.
As to the “deal”, it is long on useless measures such requiring a vote on a balanced budget amendment and establishing yet another “joint select committee” to study deficit reduction, and short on specifics. Reason tells us that solving our deficit problem requires both revenue increases and cuts in the three large mandatory items that account for about 63% of the federal budget: Medicare/Medicaid (23%), social security (20%), and defense (20%).
Yet, virtually the only specific change mandated by the aforementioned “deal” is ending the federal interest subsidy on graduate and professional student loans. Who knew? Who knew that it was those fat-cat graduate students who were ruining our economy! According to the Congressional Budget Office, putting an end to their subsidized borrowing spree will save us all of $1.8 billion a year, or 0.0005% of the federal budget. No wonder the US has lost its AAA credit rating!
If you, the citizens of these United States, are tired of this charade, of Republicans and Democrats playing games with our economy and our lives, please consider injecting some new blood into our political system. Give us, the Modern Whig Party, a chance!
May 1, 2011: Modern Whigs Congratulate the US Military and Intelligence Community for Bringing Osama bin Laden to Justice
It is with genuine feelings of gratitude and appreciation that the Modern Whig Party of New York congratulates the US Military and Intelligence Community for bringing Osama bin Laden to justice. We salute and admire their extraordinary courage and steadfastness, which showed once again that an attack upon the United States is an attack upon liberty itself, and that the American people remain committed to "pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
Today's triumph comes as a result of decisive leadership, tireless diplomacy, vigilant intelligence-gathering and a carefully measured use of force.
We offer our sincere thanks to our allies and friends in Pakistan and around the world who contributed to the success of this operation. We also solemnly recall those lost in the events of September 11, 2001, as well as the servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives for our country since that tragic day.
Finally, with respect to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we wish to remind our leaders that America "goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."
Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana admits he might be a Whig:
The Governor of Indiana, a fiscally responsible and reformist Republican, believes government investment in public infrastructure is essential in fostering economic growth. This is classic Whiggery. The Whigs called it "internal improvements". Here is an excerpt from the story and a link to it:
In June, Daniels told The Washington Post, “Building excellent public infrastructure is an appropriate role for government.” Such public construction, he explained, “enables the private sector to thrive.” Yes, the private sector. And then he used a term unfamiliar to most Americans: “Maybe this makes me more of a Whig.”

2010 Veterans’ Day Message:
From the home of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, to the Air Force base in Niagara Falls, to the natural beauty of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New Yorkers have served, and continue to serve our country, upholding their pledge to “protect the United States Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic”.
The modern Whig Party of New York wishes to thank all those that have served, and those that are currently serving our nation. The New York branch of the Modern Whig Party of America had its first meeting in May 2009 at the historic Thayer Hotel on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Both the Modern Whig Party of America and the New York branch were founded by veterans in response to the policy malaise in Washington, and the abject dysfunction and lack of ethics in Albany. Here in New York we are still in the organizational phase, building a citizens network to support successful candidates within twenty-four months.
This latest electoral season served to illuminate for all citizens what plagues our politics:: rampant fiscal irresponsibility and a system of legalized corruption where patronage and personal power trump public service and the common good. We heard much lip service from those courting our favor as citizens, including the quintessential establishment insider who is now governor-elect, as to how they’ll right the listing ship of Albany. The citizens of New York are skeptical: we’ve heard all this before. Unfortunately, the undisciplined antics of the new governor's main opponent produced yet another uncompetitive election with a landslide result. Meanwhile, in other parts of the State, incumbent congressmen are re-elected with 80% of the vote despite widely publicized ethical shortcomings.
THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. We, the Modern Whig Party of New York pledge to the citizens of this great State that we will have a truly electable candidate for governor in 2014, and other candidates in 2012 and 2013 for lower offices throughout the land. Our citizen representatives will lead by example, abide by a strict ethical code, favor problem-solving skills over ideological dogma, and focus solely on the public good with pragmatic policy proposals and a “get ‘er done” attitude.
If you find yourself in the political middle, independent and unrepresented by the current political structure, fiscally responsible yet socially tolerant, The Modern Whig Party needs YOU! Please volunteer. We need high caliber citizens from all backgrounds and walks of life to regain control of our government.
