Army bomb experts have been tasked to the scene in Martins Lane.

A section of the road has been closed and a nearby sports centre has been made available for residents who had to leave their homes on Saturday night.

Local SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley says a suspect device was planted in a taxi, which was hijacked earlier in the city.

On Friday, a viable device was discovered near the Newry to Dublin dual carriageway.

The bomb, which police said had the potential to kill, was found near the Cloughoge roundabout.

It was made safe by the security forces.

The A1 was closed at the Forkhill turn off for a time, causing long delays for commuters and holidaymakers on the eve of the Easter holiday weekend.
