Starting item: boots-of-speedhealth-potion3 or cloth-armorhealth-potion5 or dorans-blade

Core-Items: wriggles-lanternmercurys-treads

I'll elaborate more on items in the items section.
Introduction
Lee Sin is a high damage and high mobility melee character. He's very effective in any lane. You'll see him the most in the jungle, but he's also a great top laner.

Lee Sin is one of the highest learning curve characters in the game, so don't get frustrated if you don't get him right away, it takes practice.

Updates
12/19/2011 v1.0 released!

Removed the Lee Sin vs. Rumble video because it was me playing Rumble against Ryze? Apologies for that not sure where I put my other vid :/ I'll try to get another one up.

1/16/2012

Added Lee vs. Warwick will write a blurb soon.

3/18/2012

Added a couple match-ups and added a couple clips in the random Lee Sin clip section.
Summoner Spells
Summoner Spells:
[summoners/flash.png]

For jungling, if you get caught in the jungle at any point you can flash over a wall hopefully to safety.

For laning, it's easier to escape ganks with Flash than with Ghost. Sometimes with Ghost you're unable to avoid their red buff, or their slow/stun (e.g. udyr skarner etc.).

If you're not a huge fan of Flash, no worries, other summoner spells are solid too.

[summoners/smite.png]

Required if you're going to jungle, do not use laning. A lot of people have the notion 'well, I can jungle without it therefore, I don't need it' this is incorrect. If you don't carry Smite, you open up the game for the Enemy team to steal your buffs, dragons, and even Baron.

With recent changes Smite now updates to how much damage it does, so check that before smiting if you are unsure. You want to always attempt to Smite when it will kill! (Unless you're using Q smite Q which I'll explain later.)

[summoners/ghost.png]

Ghost is much better at closing gaps than Flash is; however, you cannot go over walls which is one of the detriments. As mentioned earlier Ghost generally isn't as good at escaping ganks from certain heroes.

Ghost shines when you have to stick to heroes or you have to run a long distance to get to a skirmish a decent distance away from where you are.

[summoners/exhaust.png]

Exhaust is a very good summoner spell, and is acceptable in both jungle and lane. If they have more than one auto attacker you should at least consider getting it.

In the jungle, it increases potency of your ganks by decreasing their armor and MR and slowing them down. Slowing them down allows both you and the your teammate to attack the enemy. Also it's the best 1v1 Summoner skill if you ever get into a slug fest with the enemy jungle.

In the lane, it's a solid choice against auto attackers.

[summoners/ignite.png]

I would only get this in lane. It increases your killing potential early game especially, and coupled with your Q and Ult, you can potentially catch them off guard with how much damage you deal.

[summoners/heal.png]

I haven't personally tried this on Lee, but some people like to get this on pretty much everybody. I've even seen it used with Smite.

[summoners/teleport.png]

Blahhh...It's nice to be able to teleport to dragon and teleport gank and what not, it just sucks that your killing power especially early game suffers immensely by picking this up. I haven't experimented enough with it to make a final judgment on it.

[summoners/cleanse.png]

Not enough testing to fully comment. It's solid against CC heavy teams especially as Lee Sin gets punished pretty hard by CC, being unable to utilize his mobility is not good.

[summoners/clairvoyance.png][summoners/clarity.png][summoners/fortify.png][summoners/promote.png][summoners/rally.png][summoners/revive.png][summoners/surge.png]

Nope.

I don't really play Dominion, and can't speak for [summoners/garrison.png].

For marks feel free to deviate between ArP and AD, it doesn't make a huge difference. I would however get AD marks for jungling as you should be starting with E and E doesn't benefit from ArP!

Marks

Attack Damage

Attack Damage is very similar to Armor Penetration. If you run the numbers you won't notice a huge deviation between choosing either one.

If you do not have attack damage runes, use armor penetration, if you do not have armor penetration, use attack damage. Don't go out of your way to build an ArP/AD page for Lee both will work.

Everything besides Armor Penetration and Attack Damage Marks are pretty meh for Lee Sin.

Armor Penetration

Armor Penetration helps your early game damage, which includes your harass, ganks, and jungling speed.

Seals

Armor

Armor is really the only choice for both jungling and laning. There's nothing that really competes with it. In lane you could go AD or HP/lvl if you really dislike armor or their team is 100% ap or something.

Glyphs

Magic Resist or Magic Resist per Level

Pretty standard for both jungling and laning. It helps his overall tankiness. Nothing sucks worse than when you gank their AP mid and they just blow you up.

Cooldown Reduction

Doesn't help Lee too much, if you're in a situation where you need to spam spells rather than spell, 1-2, spell chances are you're going to run out of energy anyways.

Armor

You don't get enough Armor from this slot to make it worthwhile, it's a possibility if they have 0 AP.

Quintessence

Attack Damage vs. Armor Penetration
Attack Damage has a slight edge here, due to a better ratio to marks (as well as scaling with your E) than Armor Penetration, again, it's not worth busting your balls to buy Attack Damage quints if you're short on IP, you can get by with Armor Penetration.

Flat Health

Doesn't do much for your jungle speed or ganking ability (besides not dying when ganking against incredibly strong champs) but is worth considering if you're going to be the only tank.

Movement Speed

Another meh, he's already incredibly mobile, the movement speed doesn't make too big of a difference. I'll need to test it some with the new jungle respawning so rapidly, and movement speed playing more of a role.

If you have access to all the runes, I'd run a page similar to the one I posted above.
Masteries
21/9/0 is pretty standard on both jungle and lane. Switch between MR and Armor depending on who you're laning against.

A lot of people will probably ask "Why don't you get Havoc?" the reason being is it's .5% per skill point, which is not very significant at all. And the crit and crit damage are more useful imo.

As Jungle I tend to get Bladed Armor instead of Veteran's Scars, but you can go either way.

I haven't had ample time to experiment with all the different Lee builds since the mastery changes. 0/21/9 or 9/21/0 could also work for general tankiness, but I haven't tested enough to say if it's better/worse.
Skills
[skills/leesin/p.png] Passive: Flurry

After Lee Sin uses an ability, his next 2 basic attacks gain 50% Attack Speed and return 10 energy each.

Explanation:

Very important skill that sometimes is overlooked. It's important in maintaining your energy, and maximizing damage from auto attacks. This is especially important in the jungle, assuming you don't have blue, you need to cast a spell, attack twice, cast another spell. This will maximize your damage output over time as well as keep your energy up.

When dueling someone, you also want to space out your abilities (assuming you can't kill them with one combo). There are definitely exceptions, like against Tryndamere you want your double E on him ASAP. And against some heroes (Renekton Garen etc.) you want your double W up before they stun/silence you so you get the armor buff.

[skills/leesin/q.png] Q: Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike

Sonic Wave: Lee Sin projects a discordant wave of sound to locate his enemies, dealing 50/80/110/140/170 (+90% of bonus Attack Damage) physical damage to the first enemy it encounters. If Sonic Wave hits, Lee Sin can cast Resonating Strike for the next 3 seconds.

Resonating Strike: Lee Sin dashes to the enemy hit by Sonic Wave, dealing 50/80/110/140/170 (+90% of bonus Attack Damage) physical damage plus 10% of their missing health.

Cost 50/30 energy

Cooldown 11/10/9/8/7 seconds

Explanation:

Lee Sin's Q is where a large portion of his damage comes from, the second part of his Q deals damage based on how much HP is missing, and if they're missing a bit of HP Lee can really punish his opponents.

A common trick you can do against people who have flash is you can hit them with the first part of your Q and then if they're going to Flash over a wall you can follow them with the 2nd part of Lee's Q, reducing their Flash to nothing. Be careful not to let your Q wear off on them though, some damage is better than no damage!

Q is also very good at aiding in stealing Baron:

There's plenty of ward jumps in this as well.

[skills/leesin/w.png] W: Safeguard / Iron Will

Safeguard: Lee Sin rushes towards a target ally, shielding them both from 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+80% per Ability Power) damage. After using Safeguard, Lee Sin can cast Iron Will for the next 3 seconds.

Iron Will: Lee Sin's intense training allows him to thrive in battle. For 5 seconds, Lee Sin gains5/10/15/20/25 lifesteal, spell vamp, and armor.

Cost 50/30 energy

Cooldown 8 seconds

Range 700

Explanation:

The main reason Lee Sin is so mobile. Safeguard can be used to dash to minions, friendly champs, and wards. It can also be used to shield yourself! (Alt + W is the default self cast for this ability). It's important that you self cast this in the jungle.

W can go through walls as well. Ward jumping is fun and effective in closing distances, jumping walls to escape, or simply positioning yourself better.

You can tell a great Lee Sin from a good Lee Sin by their ability to ward jump, basically what you do is place a ward, and then hurry and use your W to it. You can use this to gap close, jump over walls or escape. It's an effective tool to use.

Something to remember is that spell vamp works on all non-onhit damaging spells. So basically all of Lee Sin's skills magic and physical.

Example of Ward Jumping:

[skills/leesin/e.png] E: Tempest / Cripple

Tempest: Lee Sin smashes the ground sending out a shockwave that deals 60 / 95 / 130 / 165 / 200 (+0.6 per bonus Attack Damage) magic damage and reveals enemy units hit. If Tempest hits an enemy, Lee Sin can cast cripple for the next 3 seconds.

Cripple: Lee Sin cripples nearby enemies revealed by Tempest, reducing their Movement and Attack Speed by 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60 % for 4 seconds. Movement and Attack Speed recover gradually over the duration.

Cost 50/30 energy

Cooldown 10 seconds

Range 450

Explanation:

Very strong ability if you can land it on an auto attack based champion like Tryndamere/Jax/AD carries etc.

A thing to note is that the range on the second E is much larger than the initial E radius. But you must hit the target with the initial E in order to slow them, the range of both will just take some getting used to.

I max this first against Tryndamere.

[skills/leesin/r.png] R: Dragon's Rage

Lee Sin performs a powerful roundhouse kick launching his target back, dealing 200 / 400 / 600 (+1.5 per bonus Attack Damage) physical damage to the target and any enemies they collide with. Enemies the target collides with are knocked into the air for a short duration.

Cost 0 energy

Cooldown 90 / 75 / 60 seconds

Explanation:

His ultimate does a lot of damage, and scales really well with AD. You can use this to save teammates by kicking opponents away (you can W to allies then kick), do a lot of damage, or CC an entire team. The kick does full damage to the person you kick as well as to the people the person you kicked hit. It also knocks all the people hit.

Another thing you can do is flash/ward jump behind a high priority target then kick them to your team and instantly make it a 5v4.

A common trick in 1v1 or in situations where you need to burst hard, you can hit your initial Q, kick them away and Q again, the damage from his ult will make your finishing Q do a lot more damage.

Another thing you can do is kick soon-to-be ulting Amumu out of position, or an ulting Fiddlesticks/Kennen.

Lee Sin Triple Kick:

A showcasing all of Lee Sin's abilities:
Skill Order
In general you want [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] or [skills/leesin/e.png].

I cover different paths to take against different lane match-ups lower in the guide.

When initially leveling your skills in lane, you want to start with Q at level 1, go W for safety at level 2 (or E if you want to be aggressive), then at level 3 get whichever skill you didn't level. It's important to be able to use all your abilities especially if you get in a slug fest against your lane.

In the jungle, you want to start with E and then if you're ganking at level 2 get Q, if you're jungling more get W, then at level 3 get whichever skill you didn't level. It's especially important to have all three of your skills while jungling because it greatly increases the effectiveness of your ganks as well as improves your ability to clear the jungle by keeping your flurry up.

Due to the recent changes to the jungle, the second level of W is no longer required to jungle effectively, so prioritizing Q is best!

Item Builds
[items/dorans-blade.png]

Doran's Blade is a decent item for level 2 ganking if you can get a good leash on red. I wouldn't get it during laning unless you're against some incredibly weak laner, you need some sustain.

[items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png]

Boots 3pots is good on both jungle Lee and Lane Lee. It's added mobility helps you get between camps easier, return to the jungle after ganks, and it adds additional strength to your ganks. Like Doran's blade it's very good for level 2 ganking. I have started using this as my default!

It's good for escaping ganks and gluing to your opponents in lane as well. And it has the sustain from having health potions. Against heavy AD you should still consider going Cloth 5 pots, but with the recent nerf to health pots, I've been getting boots 3 pots occasionally against strong AD heroes as well.

[items/mercurys-treads.png] or [items/ninja-tabi.png] or [items/boots-of-mobility.png]

I haven't done much with mobo boots, but if you roam a lot (and they don't have much CC) you could attempt using them. I'm going to experiment with these more because they add a lot to the speed of your jungle and the ability to get to ganks, and be able to run quickly to camps after ganks (and even a little between camps cause it kicks in).

Mercury's treads are by far the choice boots against CC teams, Lee Sin cannot utilize his amazing ability to manipulate the terrain with his mobility when he's CC'd, and he's not tanky until he gets a few items. Tenacity goes a long way.

Against heavy auto-attacking teams, or if you're in a lane against Tryndamere you can consider getting Ninja Tabi, but if they have much CC you're better off sticking with Merc treads.

[items/aegis-of-the-legion.png]

I think this item is underrated as effectiveness. It helps a single person by a considerable amount, and it has a beneficial aura for your team. I occasionally get it both in the jungle and in lane. Also when you're jungler and you're ganking with an early Aegis, the damage the enemy lane does to your lane is cut by a decent amount.

[items/atmas-impaler.png]

Against AD heavy teams you can't go wrong with Atma's Impaler if you have any bonus health at all. Getting it directly after Aegis is fine.

[items/frozen-mallet.png]

I haven't been getting Frozen Mallet as often lately, I've been just getting Phage if I need damage+health+slow. I think the Frozen Mallet combine cost is too high.

[items/giants-belt.png]

Great for overall tankiness and improves your damage if you have gotten Atma's Impaler.

[items/guardian-angel.png]

Great item especially if you're getting focused or are a serious threat to the well being of the enemy team.

[items/hexdrinker.png]

An often overlooked item that is very solid against heavy AP teams. This item is very good if you're against an AP character in lane.

[items/last-whisper.png]

This item is necessary against armor stacking teams! If there's only one person with Armor that isn't a huge threat to your team, you can bypass it for a later time, but you should consider it if more than one person is stacking armor.

[items/phage.png]

Definitely a solid item for the price. It helps atma's impaler's damage slightly and gives you additional tankiness and damage.

[items/sight-ward.png]

It's always a smart idea to carry a few of these around for map control and ward jumping. I almost never use my last ward for vision, I'm usually saving it for a ward jump.

[items/negatron-cloak.png][items/chain-vest.png]

Both items increase your effective tankiness by a considerable amount for the amount of gold you pay, you can consider getting one of these to help if needed.

[items/quicksilver-sash.png]

Very useful against CC-oriented teams, especially those with a lot of AP damage.

[items/warmogs-armor.png]

Generally the accepted item on Lee. It definitely helps with tankiness, and once you get Atma's you are doing a good amount of damage. Sometimes the path is unrealistic due to the high cost. It's always worth a consideration especially if you need a tank.

[items/wriggles-lantern.png]

Very good item in the jungle and in lane, helps your sustain and increases your dragon/baron control. I have strayed away from getting it as often as I used to on jungle due to them lessening the proc and it costing a decent amount of money. This is critical to winning your lane against almost all AD tops.

It is still good for the ward to be able to ward jump to and if your enemy has a few ADs on their team.

[items/infinity-edge.png]

A solid choice for late game damage, especially if you already have an Atma's. Infinity edge makes the gold you invested in Crit % way more valuable. It's great against teams that aren't stacking armor (if they are get Last Whisper).

[items/the-bloodthirster.png]

Another solid choice for late game damage. The main drawback about this item is if you ever die you have to spend a great deal of time refarming them and most times you just don't have that time. Works well if you build GA or are not dying.

[items/hextech-gunblade.png]

RIP

[items/trinity-force.png]

It costs too much, doesn't add enough damage, has mana, etc. etc. I would not advise getting it.

Upgrade boots when you see fit, earlier if they have a lot of CC and you need the Merc's.

There's a ton of flexibility in each of his builds, it completely depends on the situation. Cookie-cutter won't get you to the top.
Laning Match-ups
Assume the following skill order unless specified otherwise:
[skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

Pick up [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] against all of the following heroes:

[champ/akali.png]

Akali is a champ that you should beat in lane; however, just because you can reveal her in her shroud does not mean you automatically win. Be sure to do as much damage as possible when she attacks you. Also if she uses her Q to farm punish her while she has to wait for the cool down to come back up. You must be aggressive early, but be wary of ganks.

[champ/chogath.png]

A lot of Cho's will rush Frozen Heart against heavy AD tops, it's frustrating, punish him early if you can, a lot of times you're going to have to just farm fest against Cho. You can out sustain him with your W and wriggle's, he'll eventually run out of mana. Try to keep him off your turret if it's an even match so you have an easier time last-hitting.

[champ/galio.png]

Galio doesn't do very well against AD characters, especially when the AD characters have sustain. Attack him a lot, he can't do a whole lot to you, don't take too much damage from creeps though.

[champ/jax.png]

Another hero you need to punish early if possible. Once Jax hits 6 and starts racking up stacks on his ultimate he will hurt you, and he will hurt you a lot.

[champ/irelia.png]

Irelia is really annoying because you can't really build against her, you win early exchanges. If I see that the Irelia has some absurd amount of armor early game (like armor quints), I'll get 2-3 ranks in W and then max E or just max E straight off.

[champ/nasus.png]

You can womp on Nasus early, his sustain isn't that good and he has to blow through his mana if he has to keep withering you. Punish him early and try to deny him from last hitting with his Q. After he gets his Frozen Heart I usually push Nasus to his turret to make last hitting more difficult cause it's hard for Lee to harass him at that point.

[champ/rumble.png]

You should win this match-up unless he gets a successful early gank and is able to get some armor. Max Q and if possible attack him when he has 0 heat to save yourself from taking a ton of damage.

Semi-rough start, was missing too many Q's:

[champ/ryze.png]

Another match-up you should win unless he gets an early gank. After he prisons you just run him over. Prison is incredibly annoying for Lee, and it won't allow you to shield yourself, but after Ryze uses it you should be able to punish him severely.

[champ/singed.png]

This match-up goes in slight favor of Lee. He can beat him hard early if the Singed doesn't play smart, you want to try to beat him down before he gets Catalyst.

[champ/sion.png]

You want to try to pop his shield with a double Q, if he can't farm, he can't push, so he can't roam and kill your team. Also popping his shield halves his damage (at least), earlier levels Sions tend to have their shield leveled, so it's pretty much their only source of damage.

Lee Sin vs. Sion

[champ/udyr.png]

You can also pick up cloth armor 5 pots instead of boots. This is a hero that if they have even the slightest idea of what's going on, they'll probably beat you hard. I think Udyr is due for some nerfs his damage with no items is too high and his sustain with no items is too high.

Pick up [items/cloth-armor.png][items/health-potion5.png] against all of the following heroes:

[champ/gangplank.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

Gangplank should be a win. You can max either W or Q, W being the safer of the two. Be careful about getting into scrims with him because he can punish you a lot if you're losing the fight. His passive is incredibly strong, and if you used your W to shield yourself you'll have a hard time getting away from him.

[champ/garen.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

You want to make sure your Iron Will is up before he silences you (or use Safeguard to get away). Make sure to attacking him if you're caught in his spin and cannot get away. Most times if your Iron Will is leveled and you have a few ranks in it, you can hurt Garen as much as he's hurting you and then continue to damage him afterwards.

Garen doesn't have much damage once he's used his cool downs. Attack him a lot after he uses his skills, assuming you can do so safely.

[champ/nidalee.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

Wriggle's Nidalee is the lamest thing ever. I tend to just try to farm early if possible and then when I get Wriggle's and a few ranks of W, she's unable to do much if she's not way ahead of you.

[champ/kassadin.png]

Pretty easy lane due to having sustain vs him not. If he jumps in on you and you can safely attack him, do so. Try to push the lane to the turret, the strength of kassadin lies in the fact that he can gank quickly and with a lot of damage, if the wave is pushed to his turret, he cannot do this!

[champ/renekton.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

The Lee vs. Renekton match-up is very similar to the Lee vs. Garen match-up. You want to make sure your Iron Will is up before he stuns you so you can handle the damage he deals to you. If you're healthy enough make sure to punish him when his cooldowns are down!

[champ/riven.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] or [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

Riven is annoying and has massive burst and even more mobility than you do (cept she can't jump over walls). This is definitely a dangerous lane for you to be against, I haven't got a lot of experience against her so I can't fully comment, but I'd give slight edge to Riven due to her ability-based damage and ability to get in and get out.

[champ/talon.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png] or [skills/leesin/w.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png]

Your objective is to get your second W (Iron Will) up before his Rake hits you in lane, if you can do that, it's an easy lane win. Q can win your lane as well but I believe W is safer. Once you got a few ranks in W you can pretty much shrug off his attacks and still do damage to him.

[champ/tryndamere.png]

Skill Order [skills/leesin/r.png] > [skills/leesin/e.png] > [skills/leesin/q.png]>[skills/leesin/w.png]

The reason for putting E first is it cripples Tryndamere's damage for the duration of it and you can punish him while it's active.

In lane you want to attack Tryndamere whenever he doesn't have rage, or whenever you can get your E on him. Make sure to get out before/when your E wears out because he will do a lot of damage to you (assuming you can't finish him). A lot of times Tryn's will also underestimate your damage, so you can hit them with a QRQ combo real quick and surprise them before they ult, sometimes it's risky though because you're blowing all your skills, but they'll usually have to back anyways so it's worth a shot.

Lee Sin vs. Tryndamare

Got a gank early so match-up was kind of skewed.

Lee Sin vs. Tryndamere II

[champ/xerath.png]

Another match-up you should win, be sure to heavily harass him early as he doesn't have too much damage, and once he hits 6 he goes beast mode.

[champ/warwick.png]

Warwick is pretty easy if you knock him down and then keep in him on the ground, if you allow him to free farm or he gets a couple ganks and gets an early Frozen Heart then you're in for some trouble, don't let that happen.

[champ/kennen.png]

Kennen is usually easy as long as you get a few ranks in W. You can just shield all his harass and lifesteal back what you were unable to shield. He's also pretty squishy so killing him is usually not a huge ordeal.
Jungling
Now that Red/Blue are so easy, I've been starting Wraiths (starting with E), then getting red leashed and then usually ganking directly after that (grab Q at level 2). You're able to stay healthy enough for a level 2 gank with only a dorans blade if you get Red leashed.

You can do a normal Wolves=>Blue=>Wraiths=>Golems=>Red clear easily with a leash on Blue as well, make sure to get W at level 2 if you're going for a full clear, it'll help you keep your HP up.

Some sample Lee Sin Jungle Games:

The general rotation in the jungle is W, 1-2, W, 1-2, Q, 1-2, Q, 1-2, E, 1-2, E, 1-2 repeat.

The reason you do this is to get your spell vamp for your damaging Q ability.
Early Game
Laning

During the laning phase you need to be aggressive, but you also gotta be smart. Don't take too much damage from creeps or turrets, make sure you win your exchanges.

Something that sometimes catches the enemy off-guard is standing back from the creep wave, then W'ing to a creep the double E'ing and double Q'ing then backing out. There's danger in this however because you won't be able to easily escape until your W is back off CD, it's definitely a trick to utilize is you're winning exchanges and aren't worried about a jungler gank.

If you see their jungler bottom you can play more aggressive than normal.

Jungling

When jungling you want to recognize what the creep waves are doing. By that I mean if you see the enemy wave is pushing, you can get ready to gank it.

If your lanes (top and bot) are pushed you can sneak through the lane and through the far bottom/far top brush, and surprise the enemy when the enemies lane starts pushing back.

Be sure to ask where wards are! Your team may not know, but it's always worth asking, because if you run all the way there, and run directly past a ward that your team knew was there, you just wasted a bunch of time.

Sometimes it is worth it to get an early oracles if all the lanes are warding. It also allows you to clear dragon wards and do dragon.

It's important to recognize times to do dragon/baron, sometimes picking off a single person is enough to start either dragon/baron. (Of course, if it's dragon you want the someone to be the jungler, mid, or bot.)

Another thing is, if your bot and mid have decent presence, and their jungle ganks top, you can take Dragon make sure to get your mid and bottom to help you.

When it's really late in the game and the enemy sends two low-mobility champs bot, or your team has high damage, you can easily take Baron assuming you're not really far behind or they have 3 stacked people near Baron.
Team Fights
Your main role is either protecting your carry, or sticking to the enemy carry. If the enemy carry is a higher threat to your team, than your carry is to their team, you should probably go after their carry. Be sure to pick your spots wisely, because sometimes even when your carry is behind it's unrealistic to go for the enemy carry due to their positioning or protection. Take what you can get.

Utilize your ultimate, sometimes it's better to kick someone away, sometimes to kick them towards your team, sometimes to kick as many people as possible, that's a total judgment call that is independent of each specific situation.

Try to slow (with your E) as many people as possible unless you're acting as anti-carry, then make sure to get your E on them. E can be very effective at protecting your carry as well.

Smart Casting and Self Casting
I personally choose not to change my Q, W, E, R to smart cast, because I find it's too much of a hassle especially when you play more than one champ. However, I use Shift + Q, W, E, R to activate Smart Cast. It's really a matter of preference, I don't have any issue with hitting Shift to do it.

In order to self cast, you can set it up to another how key or you can use Alt + W (or whatever you set it to) to self cast his shield.

Hope this helps.
Ranked Games -- Mindset
Here's a section that really has nothing to do with Lee Sin, but will help you gain elo without wanting to pull your hair out.

Whenever someone screws up, chances are they know it, you don't have to drill them with it.

If you are blamed, even if it's not your fault, don't say anything. A lot of people attack just to get a rise out of you or to justify their poor play. You fighting back won't get anything done, and it makes you look stupid.

If you criticize someone at all make sure it is constructive! Most the time even constructive criticism gets a negative response so be careful when you use it. If they attack you for that, ignore it, don't get flustered, and don't offer that person advice ever again.

If you lose a game, it's not a big deal, no need to spout off "Well my team this, my team that, bla bla bla bla" you lost, get over it, requeue and play better.

Make sure you realize your mistakes! Too many players are way too concerned about how poor their team did and don't even notice that they made mistakes, this is unacceptable to people trying to improve. You cannot improve if you don't know what to improve on.

If you want to troll, don't queue for ranked, better yet, don't queue at all and possibly go rethink your attitude.

Following all these guidelines will surely boost your Elo, and I know, you're only low elo because your team sucked (everyone's been there), your internet is bad (everyone's been there), but you're the perfect player.

Lee Sin is not the easiest champion to play. You will have to spend time to learn him. He's very fun and rewarding when you learn to master him.

Try your best, that's all you can do.

I noticed that youre starting to get frozen mallet into atmas a lot lately. What are your thoughts on atmogs vs fratmas?

I second a thanks to cruzer,I have been stuck in the lower elo bracket this season even though i understand the objectives of the game properly(progressing the game in proper fashion), when i finally realized what i was missing; aggression (the ability to make things happen, gotta go for the mvp, why be a role player?). I picked up Lee Sin because he is the one of the most highly rewarded champions for good (Calculated) aggression, to change my playstyle, and with the help of Cruzer's guide i have been highly successful/rewarded (win and fun-wise). Part of the reason is he uses lots of skills/skill shots increasing the risk reward factor and ofcourse his insane mobility.

I dont hesitate to ward jump into flash q to pick up key kills that serve as a huge mental boost. I also buy plenty of wards, i think this is what separtes cruzer from other lee guides, extra wards always go to use(even when u use them to escape they actually double for vision most of the time as well). I build very aggresively in the early to mid-game, i think this is key, and then usually an atmas into warmogs for late game(safer than ie even if its tempting), rather than going overly tanky first (also i dont kill tower i let the creeps do it for me to build xp adv). this means i can gank other lanes less but it preserves my lead in my lane which becomes more of a deciding factor when your team is unreliable.

I had a question about perhaps running cloth armor ward 3 pots instead of boots 3 pots in some matchups, ward opposing junglers wraiths or river exit blue buff(purple side) (i think this gives an incredible amount of info for your team) and possibly allows you to press the early advantage lee has without that gray area(risk of well executed/and timed early gank).

My next steps will be to learn riven viegar jungle allistar/blitz, thanks again cruzer.

Hey, Cruzer, if you run full AD reds and Quints, why not add in a single AD blue? It costs you one MR, but due to the way the math works it gives you one more point of AD than just AD Reds/Quints will.

Thank you for this great guide! I was getting a little bored with league until one day I saw you play Lee on stream, from where on I decided to give him a shot too.
I found my favourite champion BY FAR and he is somewhat the reason I still have interest in league, I like pretty much everything about Lee and consider him probably the most interesting champion by design in LoL.
I often check various streams of high elo Lee players and I have to say you easily seem to be the biggest playmaker and the most mechanically skilled out of all, even comparing to guys from top comp. teams.

Thanks again for a great guide and stream some more Lee please. :)

@pacifier Pretty sure olaf beats Lee, Olaf beats a lot of melee champs.

    @vg doesn't make a big difference.

@nx- go balanced rune page and get a few ranks in w

@evalone I don't believe in cookie cutter builds at all but fratmas/atmogs IE GA Mercs maw/fon/bt

@Splinter Once he gets to 6 it gets hairy, try to kill him before that

    @Strag Thanks :D

@nooblet I think maxing it 100% of the time is a definite leak in the effectiveness of Lee. Some lanes you can just punish like crazy with your Q leveled. Read my champ match-up section.

@uzi I haven't really laned against them much, but when I do I can. Trying to stray away from being 'lee only' or whatever people have come to think of me.

@Faze E? Possibly if he had an absolutely absurd amount of armor. E isn't really gonna help you against him though most of his damage comes from him Qing you and ulting you in lane. If you need to level W a couple times, but you should punish him with Q early game imo.

Would you consider maxing e first in lane versus ww or still q? i find that around mid game ww's capabilites as a duelist improves and that q does quit do enough dmg to him

Hey Cruzer I really like this guide, it helped me a lot improve on my lee sin. Could you write something about laning against Olaf and Shyvana too?
