Beacon Intermission Video Here's a cool video that was shown during intermission at the Beacon -- Gregg gives the scoop on his upcoming autobiography.

Gregg Allman's bulging disc's painful flare up prevented him from performing at The Allman Brothers Band 2012 Sold Out Beacon finale, on Sunday March 25. The decision was reached at showtime. The band, not wanting to disappoint it's loyal fans performed with numerous guest musicians joining them in Gregg's absence. Performers included John Popper (Blues Traveler) Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie) Bruce Katz (Gregg Allman keyboardist) Alecia Chakour, Ron Johnson & Maurice Brown (Warren Haynes Band) Oz Noy (Guitar) Anton Fig (Drums) & Hook Herrera (Harp).

Mar 1: Butch sat in with Great Caesar's Ghost for a show last year and a double CD of it is out now -- not many bands who play ABB and GD covers get to have a member of the ABB join them for a whole show -- have a listen and see why they got the nod! Available at Hittin' The Note and on iTunes and CD Baby.

Feb 21: The Allman Brothers Band will headline the All Good Festival in Thornville, OH at historic Legend Valley on July 21, 2012. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 24, at noon. Click here for the full scoop.

February 11, 2012 was an important day in Allman Brothers Band history as NARAS awarded the Brothers with Lifetime Achievement Grammy at the Special Merits Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, CA. ABB Live at the Fillmore East - 40th Anniversary The syndicated rock radio show InTheStudio celebrated the 40th Anniversary of one of the greatest live albums, The Allman Brothers Band At the Fillmore East, in a show broadcast the week of July 18-24. If you missed the broadcast, you can hear a preview or purchase a download of it at http://www.inthestudio.net/this-week-in-the-studio/allman-brothers-band-2.

Show producer and host Redbeard re-lived those precious nights in the Spring of 1971 with singer/organist Gregg Allman and with one of the two original guitarists, Dickey Betts. "The Fillmore East was everybody's favorite gig to play. It was the Carnegie Hall of Rock'n'Roll," announces Betts. "It was a real status thing to play there and you got like a real select crowd when you played there," remembers Allman.

Gregg's first solo album in 13 years, Low Country Blues, is winning new fans and wowing seasoned ones the world over!

"I've got my hand over my heart," Gregg Allman says of his extraordinary new album, "and if it's a hit there, it's a hit."

Low Country Blues marks the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's seventh solo recording and first in more than 13 years. Produced by T Bone Burnett, the album finds Allman putting his own stamp on songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long influenced his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam. Named for the coastal Georgia region Allman calls home, Low Country Blues stands as a high water mark in an already remarkable body of work, rich with passion, verve, and the unerring confidence of a true survivor.

Buy Low Country Blues at Rounder Records or Hittin' The Note or Amazon.com.

Warren's hot new album, Man in Motion, is out! From Amazon.com, "Warren Haynes continues to be one of the most lauded straight-ahead rock lead guitarists performing today. But with his latest album his superior vocals are also at the forefront. Haynes' bold and emotive delivery, shimmering with his smoky vibrato is not to be missed. The album features Ivan Neville on organ and background vocals, Ian McLagan on piano, Ruthie Foster on background vocals, George Porter Jr. on bass and Ron Holloway on saxophone." Check it out on Amazon.com.

Derek and Susan fans rejoice! The Tedeschi Trucks Band has released their first CD, Revelator. From Amazon.com: Revelator is the long-awaited, song-oriented debut album by the husband-wife team of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks. Filled with smoky, blues-dipped rockers and heart-stilling ballads that show off, respectively, the gutsier and softer side of Tedeschi's vocal ability, plus a series of emotive, story-telling solos shaped by Trucks's uncanny agility on slide-guitar, Revelator also serves to introduce the couple s new, 11-piece ensemble Tedeschi Trucks Band.

A dramatic leap forward for two of the music world's most dynamic performers, Revelator is a confident yet unforced triumph offering a cohesive vision: an idyllic, musical world in which the echoes of so many great traditions Delta blues and Memphis soul, Sixties rock and Seventies funk organically flow together, blending with an entirely original, modern sensibility.

15-Show 2009 Beacon Theatre Run Released

15-Show 2009 Beacon Theatre Run Released!

To commemorate their 40th anniversary, The Allman Brothers Band has released a Beacon Box live CD package, capturing all 15 sold-out shows from the group’s historic March 2009 stand at the venerable Beacon Theatre in New York City. This is the first time the band has made CDs available from their annual visits to New York, which date back to 1989 and includes 188 consecutive sold-out shows at the Beacon. Individual shows are available as well and can be ordered from www.hittinthenote.com.

This run was dedicated to the memory of Duane Allman, seminal guitarist and founder of the band, and to help celebrate Duane’s legacy, 62 special guests shared the stage with the Allman Brothers Band. The list includes a “Who’s Who” of rock, jazz and jams greats, including Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Winter, Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring and John Bell, Kid Rock, Billy Gibbons, Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas, Bob Margolin, Phish’s Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and many others. Also appearing for two nights with the band was the inimitable Eric Clapton, who teamed with Duane Allman to record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970, considered by many critics to be the finest guitar album of all time. This marked the first occasion that Clapton had played with the Allman Brothers Band in a public setting.

The fact that the band performed at its considerable best in its 40th year is a remarkable testament to the talents of this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group. All the magic of their timeless classics, newer tunes and spectacular cover songs shines through on the Beacon Box live CD package. The 15 historical shows, containing 100 different songs is packaged in a custom-made, hand-crafted, serial numbered box that has the Beacon Theatre’s marquee silkscreened across the front. In addition to the Beacon concerts, this box set includes a special bonus performance of the Allman Brothers Band at Warren Haynes’ 20th Annual Christmas Jam, which occurred in December of 2008. Also included in the box set edition is a 60 page CD booklet with liner notes, set list and exclusive photos taken during the run by ABB Tour Mystic, Kirk West. Shows are available on an individual basis as well, so take advantage of this once in a lifetime offer to savor a once in a lifetime event. Please visit www.hittinthenote.com. for set list, show descriptions and ordering info.

From the Archives

Did you enjoy the Live at Fillmore East album? Or is a better question, "how many copies have you worn out?!" The ABB is an improvisational jam band -- they never play a song the same way twice. So if you liked the Fillmore album, now you can enjoy other variations of your favorites, and some new songs you haven't heard live before. Thanks to the efforts of people who love the ABB music as much as you do, a number of fantastic live show recordings were rescued from the vaults and made available for us all to enjoy.

Boston Common, August 17, 1971
This CD features the original ABB lineup playing at the Boston Common August 17, 1971. Recorded just five months after the historic Fillmore East shows, this gem includes "Statesboro Blues," "Trouble No More," "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'," a 26 minute "You Don't Love Me," Berry's vocals on "Hoochie Coochie Man," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," and a riveting and unusual "Whipping Post" finale. You can buy it at the Beacon shows or click to order it online.

American University, 12/13/70
The first ABB archive release, American University, 12/13/70, another superb early recording and ABB manager Bert Holman's first show, is back in stock!

SUNY Stonybrook, 9/19/71
The second ABB archive release, SUNY at Stonybrook, 9/19/71, contains one of the best “Dreams” ever captured on tape and a rare “Blue Sky” with Duane! Recorded just weeks prior to Duane’s untimely passing, this one will surely make you sit up and listen to the growth of the band in its short run to that point.

Macon, 2/11/72
The third ABB archive, Macon, 2/11/72, captures the intense spirit and determination the "5-man band era" showed as they regrouped following the loss of their leader, Duane Allman. Many of your friends here at HTW heard the band during this extremely emotional era and found healing in the music, including members of the ABB themselves. A rare glimpse into that time can be found on this CD.

Nassau Coliseum, 5/1/73
The fourth archival release from the Allman Brothers Band features the same lineup that recorded the legendary Brothers and Sisters album, with new members Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams. Nassau Coliseum, 5/1/73 is another proud addition to this line of great archival shows from the Allman Brothers Band. This particular incarnation was often referred to as the “best damn band in the land,” and for good reason. Such ABB gems as “Jessica,” “Come and Go Blues,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “Wasted Words,” plus a cool “Mountain Jam” are highlights of this outstanding recording. In addition, old chestnuts are revamped to fit the current lineup – this one is a keeper for sure!

"Wake up mama, turn your lamp down low"...

If you went to college in the early seventies, you know these words by heart. It's Gregg Allman's opening line from the finest concert album of all time, "Live At Fillmore East". And last night, the band performed that album from start to finish, I'd say note for note, but the Allmans are known
for nothing if not improvisation.

The dressing rooms at the Beacon are stacked.

We started on top with Derek and Butch. Trucks that is. Derek had Duane's Gold Top around his neck, in honor of the night's festivities.

The Allman Brothers Band’s April 23 concert at the Macon City Auditorium sold out Saturday in three minutes, according to Macon Centreplex box office manager David Smith.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. About 50 people lined up at the Centreplex box office Saturday morning, Smith said. Four or five of them had camped out.

Most of the tickets were sold over the phone or on the Internet.

The auditorium seats 2,550 for a concert, but only 1,600 tickets were available to the general public.

Smith said the remainder were reserved for the band and for the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House, which opened on Vineville Avenue in December.

Allman Brothers Band Museum curator E.J. Devokaitis said the museum is working on plans for an event to coincide with the concert.

He said some of the museum’s tickets might be available to the general public after the museum takes care of its volunteers.

For: The New York Times

No rock ’n’ roll tradition lasts forever. Bob Dylan plugged in his guitar. Kiss (temporarily) washed off its face paint. And now the Allman Brothers Band is leaving the Beacon Theater.

On Tuesday night the Allman band, whose annual routine of residencies at that Upper West Side theater once seemed as permanent as the bathroom-wall graffiti at CBGB, announced that when it came to New York in March, it would not appear at the Beacon, where it has played 190 shows over the past 20 years.

Instead the band will perform at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights, having lost its longtime Manhattan home to another group.

“Cirque du Soleil came and bought it out from under us,” Gregg Allman, the band’s singer and keyboard player, said in a telephone interview.

“It’s a drag,” Mr. Allman added. “But one monkey don’t stop no show.”

"I'm allergic to fame. I don't want to be in a world of controversy and papparazzi. None of that stuff has anything to do with music. And really, all I'm here to do is to play music."
