used a Rode shotgun mic mounted on the hot shoe... fed into camera. the initial part of the film/ voice was shot in a big open space so you can hear the echo a bit but I was close to him and the mic was pointed right at him.... on a side note - final cut X has some good audio filtering/ fixes/ effects -- that i may have used as well.. but not sure.... audio is a tough one but obviously important... and the environment, background noise, subject, movement, etc.... all effect the choice of how to capture sound. The "right" thing would have been to mic him with a lav but that introduces another layer of complexity when shooting solo.
