Mauricio Salles, the Brazilian star, returns to Rochester after previously spending the 2008 and 2009 season with the Rochester Rhinos. Salles is a skilled forward who earned the Puerto Rico Soccer League Golden Boot this past season with FC Leones. With the Puerto Rico Islanders, Salles pumped in 11 goals in his first season (2004) and he added another 14 in 2005. Numerous 30-yard blasts and a surprising bicycle kick earned Salles Goal of the Week honors. His efforts also earned All-League honors in his sophomore campaign. He was eventually lured away by Montreal in 2006, where he helped lead the Impact to the regular season championship. Salles played for the New Jersey Ironmen of the MISL in the 2007-2008 season.

Professional

After turning professional in 1997 with the Victoria Minerals in Brazil, Salles spent time with Atletico Pareanense (Brazil) and Botafogo (Brazil), before joining Omeldo soccer club in Ecuador. In 2004, Salles began his USL-1 career, leading the Puerto Rico Islanders in scoring each year. In 2004 he registered 11 goals and 24 points, good enough for sixth in the league's goal-scoring standings. In 2005, Salles increased his goal total to 14 and his points to 29, good enough for third in the league's goal-scoring standings. His strong play also earned him a spot on the USL All-League First Team. Salles joined the Montreal Impact for the 2006 season where he helped Montreal win the regular-season title, scoring nine goals, including five game-winning goals. His nine goals were good enough for sixth place in the league's goal-scoring rankings. Salles played in 26 games for the Impact in 2006. In 2007 Salles joined Omiya Ardija of Japan's J-League after playing with the Detroit Ignition of the MISL. He has continued his indoor career the following season with the New Jersey Ironmen. In 2008 Salles joined the Rochester Rhinos scoring five goals and 12 points. After suffering an injury plagued start to the 2009 season, Salles left the Rhinos to join Kazma of the Kuwaiti Premier League.
