Avodart – Treat benign prostatic hyperplasia
Enlarged prostate and the dangers of this condition
Before we get into the ways in which Avodart can help with enlarged prostate and male pattern baldness, we need to cover the basics when it comes to these two conditions. They are both caused by conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone and therefore can be treated by the same medication, in this case Avodart.
Enlarged prostate is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia. This condition is caused by too much testosterone being converted into dihydrotestosterone in the cells of the prostate. Dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that is much more potent than testosterone and as a result the prostate gets enlarged if the levels of this hormone get too high. When benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH for short happens, the prostate gets too big and obstructs the urethra, compressing the urethral canal which leads to many symptoms and even to some severe complications that can be quite serious and dangerous for your health. The symptoms of BPH include urinary retention, urinary hesitance, painful urination, frequent urination. This condition also increases the risk of urinary tract infections as more and more bacteria are present for longer periods of time in the bladder due to the inhibition of a normal urine flow. BPH can also result in chronic urinary retention which can then lead to renal failure which is a condition that is very serious and can cause serious problems with your health.
Male pattern baldness is caused by the same process of conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. When this happens in the hair cells, the follicles miniaturize and normal hair growth is inhibited. This leads to the thinning of the hairline and hair loss.
In order for this conversion to happen, a certain enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase is needed as it is crucial for this conversion to happen.
What Avodart can do to help?
Avodart is a medication that belongs to a group of medications known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors which work by inhibiting the conversion that leads to BPH and male baldness. By doing so, Avodart helps treat and maintain enlarged prostate while its use in treating male pattern baldness has not yet been officially approved, although there has been research done that has shown that Avodart is more efficient in treating Avodart than some other similar medications on the market.
Avodart treatment and precautions
One of the most important precautions when Avodart is in question is that pregnant women and children should under no circumstance handle Avodart tablets, as Avodart can be absorbed through skin and have detrimental effects on the development of the fetus or the child. It is also of utmost importance that you adhere to the recommended regimen and do exactly as you were prescribed. You will also be told to come for regular prostate checkups so that your progress can be monitored. Of course, everything you do concerning your Avodart treatment, needs to be done in consultations with your healthcare provider who will provide you with additional information on this medication.
