Dudley as Tiger Jackson?
MUST BUY.
Posted by Smorgasboard on March 3, 2012 at 6:42 p.m. #19
Ultradavid, who is a real lawyer, has explained this before. While you do own the disc you bought, you do not own the data on it. What you really bought is the right to privately use what is on the disc except for DLC content. This is similar to buying a movie disc.
The car analogy first came up by someone who believed that you should be able to tinker with what you bought. For that to happen, you will need to given the source code and the right to modify it. That cost a lot more than $60.
Posted by EG2 on March 3, 2012 at 6:43 p.m. #20
@8 What's your point? Do you realize these wouldn't exist if they weren't planned to be DLC? Because believe it or not companies plan their DLC out during the game's development...to sell later. Shocking! Scandalous! It makes no difference where the data is stored. These were created to be sold. You're fighting the wrong battle by quibbling over the location of the data. Whether on the disc or on their serves, it's irrelevant. If you want to complain, it should be based on whether or not the base package has enough content to justify the cost without this "extra" content. That is the issue.

I don't see how basic character skeleton(shell) = completed characters.
Posted by MidniteVanguard on March 3, 2012 at 6:44 p.m. #22
Yeah, it's not like they would work on the models and such for characters they know they're going to put in in advance. Or that Ono has stated they're still working on their movesets and figuring them all out. No, they'll just wait to work on new characters entirely and do them from the ground up. There aren't different teams who work on the fighting mechanics and the graphics. Nope.
I think what physically pains me are the people who complain without even keeping up with what they're complaining about. I cringe every time I see someone make a comment about how they're "Vita exclusive".
The whole "WAAAH THE DLC IS ALREADY ON DISC WE'RE GETTING RIPPED OFF" complaint is so dumb it hurts.
Posted by zferolie on March 3, 2012 at 6:45 p.m. #23
... you guys do know that this doesn't prove they are complete and on the disk. All this shows is that the models are done, and thats all. Untill I see actual gameplay with the characters, all this proves is that the characters are NOT finished, and they are still working on them gameplay wise, voice wise, and coloring wise.

@23 funny little guy.. they are complete on the disc but locked and that its why you need the 100kb unlock key to access the data... A lot of wishful thinkers here. How does it feel to pay full price for a disc that you own only 25% of?
Posted by zferolie on March 3, 2012 at 7:13 p.m. #43
@36 As I said, until I see someone hack the game, which these guys have done, to see full, completed models, then I will say they are 100% on disk. You can easily tell just by looking at the game to see if everything is there or not. If they were, they would not be seeing just these models, they would be more complete and detailed. Look at MvC3. They could see the models for Shuma and Jill without digging too deeply. And in UMvC3, you can see the costumes before they were unlocked.
A good example of what this is was in BlazBlue 2. People found data spots for Makoto, Val, and Plat, including music, some colors, and their emblems, but that was it. It's the same situation here, just that this has incomplete models, as well as incomplete prologue and epilogue movies.

You guys complaining have to realize that they put the models on the disc that way if you face someone online with that costume or that DLC character, you'll be able to play with them anyway. Unlike in SF4 where the costumes aren't on the disc and the other player can't see your alternate costume.
If they didn't, they would have to patch online so that you COULD view other people costumes. And patching a game costs about $4000 dollars.

Well, I'm reserved on the issue. If I were buying a game that was bare bones, but had a ton of stuff already on the disc ready and locked, I would be mad. However, I think SFxT, as it stands revealed now at launch, is chalk full of content and equals the $60.00 I am spending ($70 actually since I am getting the special edition).
I always base the initial value of a purchase on day 1 content. Not enough day 1 content and I'll pass.

Or are we still going to keep complaining about this unfinished on-disc content?

Yes more DLC keep releasing it so i can keep buying it i could care less if its on disc. Best part is people like me are DLC thats already on disc which i hope pisses some of you off. Oh wait gaming isnt a need its a want so you dont need the DLC just like you dont need the game.
So yea i want the DLC and the game which is why i choose to pay for it.

Posted by NWAndroid on March 3, 2012 at 7:54 p.m. #74

As evident by...what? Being able to play them through hex editing is fine in theory, but needs to actually be shown. Also that's a poor argument for being angry considering Shiro had to hack the disc himself, and gaining the ability to (theoretically) play the characters still takes actual work. I'd like to see the characters in matches before I start throwing a fit based on nothing at all.
Also, see #19.

So being on disc is not a valid reason to complain about buying DLC on disc.
Would you rather waste HD space on characters you didnt buy but have to download them ANYWAY to play against them?
Posted by gammabolt17 on March 3, 2012 at 8:03 p.m. #82
Well, they're on this disc. Either cry like b!tches about (because of course we are entitled) or shut the fvck up and buy the damn game. Bunch of crybabies. This is what gaming is now, period? You really wanna break some ground just stop playing games altogether. Mass Effect 3 has day 1 DLC coming too, there's not nearly as much uproar there. DLC is what the gaming industry is about now. Accept it or stop gaming.

Waiting to see is good. I may still disagree with you on how to feel about this, but its nice to see someone who might actually wait for the proof before flipping out and claiming Capcom are an evil batch of Satan spawn.
#82
I agree to an extent. If people are unhappy they shouldn't buy it. I disagree that they should "accept it or stop gaming". If gamers stopped buying games for a specific reason, then they're still accepting that reason, and that's not good. It's not about quitting gaming its about sending a message. They're going about it the right way. Step 2 is to complain to Capcom, which no one seems to want to do but its extremely easy considering Ono has Twitter.
I may not agree with a lot of these people, and I probably have the same view of the content "issue" itself, but it would be stupid for these people to just quit.

even if the DLC characters and costumes were all completed and on disc it wouldnt be a big deal. I'm sure its true that devs do hold back content that probably wouldve been in the game if DLC didnt exist, but you need to understand the concept of paying for intellectual property; you dont own everything on the disc, its just a worthless piece of plastic without the data which is what you pay for.
Posted by NyuBomber on March 3, 2012 at 8:16 p.m. #95
@82 There's actually been way more pop-off on ME3's DLC, especially since one of the pieces has a particular element that goes against the plot that has been established through the previous 2 games.

The set of 'images # 3' is the best since sf iv series.

Posted by AnaboliChris on March 3, 2012 at 8:18 p.m. #97
#94, yes blah blah blah.
But how does it feel to know that you're paying $60+ for 25% of the disc :)
$15 for Super which will add the remaining characters.
$X for 6 sets of gems (3 gems per set)
$X for Costumes
Then Capcom will release the same disc with a different cover and call it the "GOTY" Edition which includes all of the DLC's.
Kudos to Capcom for this milking strategy.
Posted by Getdownbrown83 on March 3, 2012 at 8:19 p.m. #98
I think if DLC didn't exist you wouldn't get god the crap you get with games now and they would just give you the game without costumes characters ect. To cut cost and people would buy it games cost more to make too so if there wasn't DLC they would just put less in anyway

When I see these guys hacked, fully playble in a week, then Capcom will be getting some hate.
... Though this begs the question. If they are fully complete... why keep them on disk, where people can discover them? They should have only put the assets, the data slots for them in game, and leave everything else for a future patch. That way it would be harder to prove they took the easy, get more money, way.

If they didn't plan DLC into the revenue that the game could "potentially" make, said title may have received a SMALLER development budget from the start!
Meaning, you wouldn't have these characters anyway! Because they can make money on them later is the ENTIRE reason they made them!
And I'm no DLC expert. But isn't "on disk DLC" better for everyone? Less for them to send. Less for us to store. And no need to split the community by having to disable content that someone else didn't buy. Ala cod map packs!
P.S. I find it mildly sickening how the community has ripped all of the files off of the disk already.
Way to $hit on Capcom's future announcements.

Honestly though, this ruins the hype these characters might f had. i think event hubs should put spoilers or something in the title because maybe some people like to be suprised??

i just want to take a moment and thank you dude for hacking this bro. your a hero to us common folk but a nightmare to fanboys and business Jerks. now all we need is the character animations and nobody can really justify their business tactices. even if capcom says "well their not finish yet". Please you just need a balance patch.

Like i said, some people like surprises dude. You don't know how hype it was waiting for Capcom to release the new characters for MvC3. I would check this site everyday multiple times just waiting for them to release info. Some people like surpises, and these guys like shiroiKaze ruins it for others. Yeah maybe you could "ignore" the article but you can't ignore the title or unsee somthing you might stumple on.

The textures turn out to be a little wonky because everyone also has a pandora texture layered in... not worth the time it would take to figure out how to correct this is software that was designed for ripping sf4 models. You will without a doubt be seeing gameplay vids either from me or someone else soon. I did send the missing lars and rolento images... Vega alt 2 was sent but must have gotten mixed up in about 20 emails... his alt 2 looks a lot like Raphael from Soul Calibur V.

I bought this game 2 days ago biggest piece of sh#t I have ever bought...after 4 hrs was bored to death..... thought I would give the game a chance... maybe some secret characters....nope nothin......and the dlc characters..... whoopy..... can't wait for tht...(sarcastic) save ur money fan boys......

#121, unless you plan on playing inside of a cave, Gems will be one of the things you'll want to purchase.
Thats like saying you dont want to purchase variations of X-factor or "grooves" since ppl like to compare this game to CvS2.

I know for sure I'm not buying them gems.
Posted by ShiroiKaze on March 3, 2012 at 9:08 p.m. #125
I was lucky enough to get these models off the game somewhat easily... I just used existing tools designed for modding Street Fighter 4. A lot of the file formats are the same... except textures are layered DDS files like those found in Soul Calibur. Also the software doesn't properly display animation... I tested it on known finshed characters like Ryu and also on Elena... both have complete sets of animation, however the software I'm using doesn't display it properly... piece of the geometry goes nuts. Again this is not because the characters are incomplete, it's just there aren't viewer tools geared specifically towards this game yet.
Posted by ShiroiKaze on March 3, 2012 at 9:14 p.m. #126
as for why would Capcom leave the DLC on disc... well if the rumors are true then the SF team is hard at work on Darkstalkers 4.... they removed 12 characters from the original roster of SFxT so they could still appear to be supporting the game with DLC while not really working on the game at all... as to why they think we wouldn't catch them... why did Rockstar leave hot coffee on GTA3?

@19 The thing about law is that it can change. I personally don't hold law as infallible as I'm a more political person than most.
One example of how the law can change is when they recently ruled that it is ok for users to modify their iphones. If a good lawyer wants to make the argument, I believe it is a legit one that can be made in court.

SORRY FELLAS, WALL OF TEXT.
@Nyubomber
I know there's been pop off, but there's a lot of people outside of the FGC (not even casual fighting gamers, just gamers in general) that says these types of things all the time. I know what you're saying though, because it is a lot, and that's why I mentioned it. Mass Effect has a much larger fanbase and yet there still seems to be more people crying about super ultra turbo end of year edition 2013 and crap like that. It's come to a point where the only game you can talk about with people not complaining about the sh!t throughout an entire thread is Batman: Arkham City (love that game btw). Gears of War, Call of Duty (I'll admit I hate CoD myself, but I play it so I keep that to myself) any Capcom game period, any EA game period, etc. Those are only the popular ones, but my point is on any thread concerning the aforementioned games, there's nothing but a bunch of crying. You can't even discuss the game itself because everybody just wants to cry over sh!t. That's why I said those people might as well quit gaming. We are in a digital age now, DLC is going nowhere, and I'm betting every game with DLC has some or all of it locked on the disc at purchase. Everybody wants to boycott Activision, EA, Capcom, and anyone else who has some kind of highly successful franchise that they actually take advantage of it. Boycott the industry altogether. Capcom didn't come up with the idea of disc-locked content, it's part of the gaming business today, PERIOD. I realize it's the cool thing to do since everybody's doing it, but the only difference between now and the 16-bit days is the fact that the ability to have disc-locked content wasn't possible, but Capcom obviously would have been doing the same thing way back then if they could have. I can't speak for too many other companies, but I have played Capcom games since Mickey Mousecapade, so I feel like I know what I am talking about to some degree. If anybody else had stuck with Capcom that long, and is actually calling themselves "making a stand" at this point, then what the hell are you doing here in the first place? If you've played Capcom fighters, then you know this is how they operate, by this time you should have either learned to live with it, or you shouldn't be takin that sh!t no more. The community is ruining games just as much as they think "shady industry practices" are.

@ShiroiKaze: correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the case with the SF4 games for consoles and PC, where the formats are different (Big vs. Little Endian mode)? At any rate, I think it'll just be a matter of time, we got some really talented folks over at the SRK boards. I'm suspecting the texture files are different because of the color edit mode.
Good job ripping these, btw!

I'm thinking maybe the first alt is a character from the other game and the second is an original? Some of them appear to be other characters from the same series like Abel as Seth, and Balrog might be based of Rolento though it could just be a Shadowloo soldier... but others I don't recognise at all. I'll list the Alt 1s I can identify that we don't know already:
Alisa = Juri
Blanka = Hwoarang maybe? He's the only Tekken character I can think of with goggles like that...
Bryan = I don't know... I can only think possibly Blanka?
Christie = Alpha Cammy/Shadowloo doll
Cody = Paul Phoenix
Elena = Julia Chang
Chun-Li = Panda (had we seen this one already?)
Dudley = Tiger
Guy = Possibly a Mishima? I'm not sure but those look like Kazuya/Jin style gloves...
Heihachi = Sodom
Hugo = Ganryu
Ibuki = Yoshimitsu (based off his T5 2p outfit)
Jack = E. Honda
Julia = Chun-Li
Lei = Go Hibiki?
Jack = Hugo
Sakura = Either Asuka or Xiaoyu's school outfit maybe?
Yoshimitsu = Bison maybe? His head looks like the Shadowloo skull and he has Bison's belt...
Lars = ???

@155 I'd like to think the spare Tekken, SF and neutral slots at the bottom are for potential extra DLC characters possibly to be decided by vote as was rumoured but it would make sense for them to be where Toro, Kuro and Cole would otherwise be. It looks like there's at least one more definite neutral character that we don't know about yet though.

Here’s hoping Namco will do everything right with TekkenxSF what Capcom did wrong with this game. Considering Tekken has always been rather big on the content side without going for cheap tricks like DLC, I expect that game to look at least complete when shipped.

Because of devoted fanboys like you Crapcom is pushing it more and more with DLC.
Next thing you know it's gonna be $60 to buy the license to "own" a copy of their game. Then to be able to actually play it, you are forced to have an online connection and money in your wallet so they can deduct $1 each time you play.
And they can sell it to you dedicated tools as a "Genuine arcade experience in your living room!".

And what exactly have they done "wrong" in this game, and what is "incomplete" about it? By having optional DLC that you don't HAVE to buy to experience the game to its fullest? Oh boo hoo, they've got incomplete parts of DLC on the disc that isn't required to fully enjoy the game in any way, shape, or form! Don't like it? Then don't buy it, simple as that.
@165
"Timed Exclusives". Seems to be a common thing for PS3 versions of games these days.

they've left it on the disc so people don't have to download large files when the dlc is released.
this is why they say only 1 disc version, because they've put the 'super' update on the disc already, lol.
Posted by Maryokutai on March 4, 2012 at 6 a.m. #175
@168: DLC like this stops being optional the moment I run into one of those characters online and don’t know what to do against them because I don’t know the properties of their moves. They could sell optional stuff like stages, costumes and voices for 30$ per item for all I care, but in a beat’em’up, where the whole gameplay revolves around knowing the advantages and disadvantages of characters, having twelve of them as optional content is simply a way to force people to buy them if they want to stay competitive.
"Don’t like, don’t buy" doesn’t work as simply as that.
Posted by Kimmy_13 on March 4, 2012 at 6:09 a.m. #176
@175 Then play safe against characters you don't know. Go back a bunch of years daigo fought louffy back in vanilla. You could tell he didn't know match so just change how you play or there is this amazing thing called the internet which can teach you pretty much anything.

they are most likely unfinished. They have the basic model work done but the animations voices and such are not. Look at the prologues they found. Only music and art. Unfinished on disc dlc doesn't bug me. If it was complete then I would be annoyed

Posted by hozukimaru on March 4, 2012 at 7:05 a.m. #179
Wished people would just wait for some footage,because its wrong for both arguments to assume they're complete and on the disc,or that they are not.As it stands,ill believe it when I see it,because to me this could be like MK9 skarlet,yah she could kick,jump and move around,but the had none of her special moves or the animation to them.
Posted by ShiroiKaze on March 4, 2012 at 7:51 a.m. #180
trust me... all the characters have complete sets of animation, and on srk they discovered the complete movesets for all the characters. I'm sure once the videos are up of them actually being playable there will still be some people who deny it... but whatever.
Posted by BumblebeeCody on March 4, 2012 at 7:56 a.m. #181
People like MidniteVanguard and Snakex are the reason this stuff happens. Because those guys love being done up the bum from companies and have little intelligence. Day 1 DLC and content that's on the disk is BS but seems like some people support paying for content that already own. Stop defending this unethical BS.
Posted by Maryokutai on March 4, 2012 at 7:58 a.m. #182
@176: that’s a pretty poor argument and I hope you know that. Daigo could always have gone to training mode and practiced against Rose, which is something you’re only able to do if you buy every DLC in SFxTekken.
Don’t really see why people want to justify what Capcom’s doing here.

As someone who is in school for this field i can tell you that yes dlc is intended to expand the life of the game, but at the same time in most cases where dlc is present for a game it is usually planned, written up in the contract in some form. What developers do is take some percent during the development cycle an dedicate it to be dlc some time after the game releases. The only time i can think of that dlc was actually developed post the launch of the game is in the case of elder scrolls IV and most dlc from valve games are mods created by the fans that valve like and turn into dlc.

yeah guys, because Yun, Yang, Oni, and E.Ryu were totally on the disk amirite?
The reason Jill and Shuma were on the disk, was because they were almost done, and were planned to be released a month later. The game was easily hacked, and they were made playable. There were sound issues, and were not fully fleshed out. Jill was doing sh!t damage before she officially came out.
If someone hacks it, and finds everything in there, 100% complete, including the characters, voices, complete movesets, trials, and the game won't crash in the process, then yeah, I will get irate like most of you here.
Until then, I will patiently wait until the characters are 100% done...

It's one thing to have people think you're an idiot. It's a whole nother thing to speak and remove all doubt (which you did). If you didn't read it you shouldn't have said anything, next time learn to be informed or be quiet. Of course you'll be replying with somethin silly soon.
So what ALL you goofs are telling me is you think Capcom came up with the idea for disc-locked content? Do you really only think Capcom is the only one that does this? Disc-locked content is just what the industry is now. Batwing, Robin and Catwoman were on Arkham City before release, no complaints. What trips me out is you people act like Capcom is the only ones doing this, or like they are the ones who invented disc-locked content. You guys act like Capcom IS the game industry. If disc-locked content bothers you, just stop gaming like I said, because it's not going anywhere, and most everybody does it.

@Boobee cakes
I still won't be mad. Either way it goes the game is incomplete, because even if the DLC wasn't on the disc, they would still be withholding data purposely to make us pay for them later. Either way, you own a game without all the content for it i.e. an "incomplete" game. Just because it's not on the disc doesn't mean it's not finished, either. It just means it's not on the disc. Either stop buying DLC altogether, or stop crying like b!tches. Too many grown men in here to be whinin like you are.

Whether they're on the disc or not, these characters would have been planned from their start as DLC characters. Would you guys have preferred that they just extended their production by waiting until they printed the game to start working on them? Working on an online game where we create new characters on a regular basis to sell I can tell you that because of how our development of builds for the games work, builds have data for unfinished characters who began development before that build with intentions to complete them after it. It would be much more of a pain to go in and rip out all of this data before burning a build and then re-integrating it for continued development.
Personally I would rather have all of this for free, but I'd also rather only pay $40 for games and have all games get continued free content to keep me playing them. As it is, I think I'll buy some of these if they're cheap enough. I hope the characters are released at a maximum for $15 and that costumes are much cheaper than they've been in the past. Sadly we've got games like League of Legends selling single costumes for high prices when just a model change should be a lot cheaper.
I'm not going to buy a game I don't think is worth my money but I think as it's being released, SFxT is worth the money I am paying for it. I am not going to not buy the game just because they're almost done with more characters.

Who cares if 100% of the characters are on the disk?! Why does it matter?
For all anyone knows those 12 characters were given a budget to be created based on selling them later!
Had they felt DLC was a "no go" then they probably would have had a SMALLER budget, meaning a SMALLER base roster!
All of the effing morons who hate disk releases demanded "NO MORE NEW DISK VERSION!".
Capcom plans accordingly by adding Future update material on to your Vanilla Disk. Community hacks it and goes Ape $hit? What a bunch of Fu<king morons!
"On Disk DLC" is more convenient for the distributor. It's also more convenient for the CONSUMER!
DLC is DLC! Complaining about the delivery method is simply the most a$$ backwards way thinking!
Community rules:
1) No New Disk release! Even if the $$$ value is the same or better than buying it piece by piece! No Disk!
2) No placing your Locked DLC on MY disk! No matter how much HD space it saves me! No matter how much money it saves you!
3) We will NOT understand that "on disk DLC" at least allows us to play against people who didn't buy the DLC WITHOUT having to disable it like a COD Map pack!
4) All DLC MUST be a complete afterthought! Anyone who plans DLC is the DEVIL! Any company with a business model (omg!) is NOT to be trusted!
You sound like pathetic, moaning children who understand NOTHING about the real world!
Stop poking around in the effing disk and you'll save yourself some frustration! Because anyone with half a brain knew this was how it was happening!

It's not even criticizing, it's a bunch of men crying, that's it. You're all in here dissing character DLC and ignoring the fact that most DLC in most games is already on the disc. I don't even think some people know what they're talking about, they just say this stuff because everyone else is. You damn right you should just stop buying, why would they think there was a problem with the way they do business if you keep on supporting the sh!t and still cry about it? They don't give a damn about your crying, because you still payin for that sh!t. No one here offers constructive criticism in this matter, they cry bullsh!t as if they are owed something. I can't remember too many updates from games I play that was any larger than a good 4 MB (and that is about the largest I've seen), so I'm betting most of that was disc-locked content. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

That was so awesome I think you may have brought a tear to my eye. I'm not even joking, that is probably the most intelligent thing I have ever read since registering here. You'll get flamed for speaking the truth, and I'll get flamed for supporting said truth, just watch.

Thank you friend. I'll copy that rant in the thread that just exposed Elena.

Wow, about 2 weeks ago, I said a similar thing, only you lot went into more detail. Unfortunately, not everyone is gonna see it that way. It's makes me laugh when people have issues with Capcom releasing the DLC stuff while other companies do the same thing. Some people are just pathetic.

So because a couple of other developers do the same it’s okay? Not so sure about that. CD Project (The Witcher) is going to release a complete DLC for The Witcher 2 in a couple of weeks for free. Now that is how you treat your fans and how you show them that without their support, you wouldn’t be making games anymore.
Capcom however is charging for tons of stuff, be it simple fanservice or straight parts of the game. Just look at the SF DLC for Asura’s Wrath. That would have been excellent if it had been some sort of secret unlockable mode, but who cares about fan-stuff like that if you have to pay extra for it? Goddam, in Resident Evil 4, there were two bonus modes as unlockables in the game, while in RE5, you had to buy every bonus mode – even the horribly broken versus multiplayer – as DLC. Yeah, I see that’s where the business is going but I’ll never accept it or quietly live with it. I have been loving videogames for way too long to see once great franchises turned into greedy business models without speaking my mind.

No, I'm not saying its okay, what I'm trying to say is that we live in a DLC era. Personally, I'm not a fan of DLC but its okay for some things but other than that, I'm not too keen on it. Another thing is that many people have issues with Capcom and they make out like there the ones who started it, which is not true at all. Really, people should blame the guys who actually started the DLC business. I played both RE4 and RE5 and I haven't bought a single RE5 DLC but I might get a game pack like Lost in Nightmares in the future. I appreciate what you saying man.
