It is time to say Farewell -
Mar 1, 2012 - 10:28:43 AM
1996 - 2012, 15 years have passed and it is time to say goodbye.
I started this site from a university lab and evolved throughout the years to something wonderful. Few people jumped on board throughout the years to help. Our number was small, very small, but we made a difference when hope was needed. We kept the flame going on in our darkest years.
Looking at the role of the internet playing today in support of causes and revolutions, I can humbly say we were the pioneer in this domain and shed the light on our cause and our struggle.
We gave everything for free. We couldn't have done it in any other way.
We had our ups and downs during our journey. It is sad to say that our downs came from people we thought they are friends with whom we shared our people struggle, history and more important our "cause". We decided to stay silent on all wrong doings and continue our work.
False rumours, insults, threats, hacking (by people who acted as friends).... Nothing made us go down to their level. All of that didn't matter for us, what mattered is the "idea" and no one can kill or destroy an idea.
We prevailed. Few weeks ago, I got a letter from Samir Geagea office saying they are sorry for all the wrong doings done to me and other Rifa'. Justice was served.
I decided to close the site and move on to work on something else. I know my decisions will bring mix emotions. Some will cheer this decision other will not like it.
It is hard to close something that became the refuge and the house of many for so many years. But deep inside me, I know it is the right decision.
Yes the LF is still not perfect; it is not where we hoped it will be. Yes we still believe in federalism as a solution for the Lebanese crisis. We know there are plenty of things to be done, to be corrected, to change .... I do not think this site is the best tool to do it.
I would like to thank all of you for the years we spent together. Many of you became friends of mine and I appreciate and cherish their friendship. Several have marked my life and it is their friendship that made a difference when we were attacked from our own organization in name of jealousy, greed and fear (fear for losing their ridiculous positions). Allow me to thank the following people for their effort and dedication throughout the years:
Bach: when the dark forces were stepping on us, you reached out from under their boots and asked how can I help? I owe you a big "thank you" my friend. One day we will walk together in Ashrafieh streets and sing out loud "Waad Ya Loubnan".
BG: It was a treat and pleasure to meet you and share few hours with you. I wish we had more time to sit and talk but I hope we can do it in the future. I would like to thank you for everything you did online and offline. Meeting you proved to me that there are still "good" people out there.
Boulos: Let me summarize it in one sentence "I'll shave my head over and over for you, my friend" but for sure not for the reason I did the first time. Our struggle continues but it has to take another path.
Roland: You kept a smile on my face all the time. It is not something easy to do. Thank you for sticking around.
There are plenty of you to thank, even those with whom I argued and debated with them ideas and opinions. I learned many things from you.
It is time to say farewell to all. The site and forum traffic will be directed in few days to angrlebs.com, a blog I started and will be sharing my thoughts and ideas with you on several topics starting next week. Many will join and also write their thoughts, opinions and analysis. Keep the comments coming ....
I will be working on 2 other projects: lfmartyrs.org and charlesmalek.com. If you are interested in designing, archiving, researching... on any of these 2 projects please feel free to contact me. I can be reached on contact @ angrylebs.com.
