How to Download Google Search History

How to Download Google Search Historythumbnail
Google keeps an easily accessible history of what you search.

If you stay logged onto Google while you search the Web, your search history stays saved and attributed to your account. This means if you have any Google product--such as Gmail, Google Docs or Google Calendar--and use the Google search engine, your search history can likely be retrieved through Google's Web History product.

If you don't have a Google account, you'll have to create one before you can start archiving a search engine history with Google.

      Retrieve Your Search History

      • 1

Go to the main page of Google's Web History (see Resources) and log in, using your email and password.

      • 2

Choose what type of search you'd like to download, or click "All History" to see all types of searches. Otherwise, choose "Web," "Images," "News," "Products," "Sponsored Links," "Video," "Maps," "Blogs" or "Books" from the list of options to the left. The categories correspond to types of searches offered along the top of the Google search engine page.

      • 3

Choose a time period of Web history. The page lists search history in chronological order, starting from today. To search older history, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Older" to gradually page through your history, or select a date from the calendar on the right.

Search for a specific search item by entering a word or phrase in the box at the top of the page and clicking "Search History." The search engine will bring back any time your search included that word or phrase, and any time you clicked on one of the results of your search that included that word or phrase.

      • 5

Copy what search history you'd like to save outside of your Google account and paste it into a word processing document or spreadsheet to download. Alternatively, if you're looking for just one or two search results, any links you clicked while searching for a word or phrase are saved under an expandable tab titled "Viewed (1) Result(s)."

      Remove History

      • 1

Under "All History," select "Remove Items."

      • 2

Click "Clear Entire Web History" if you'd like to clear all your search history.

      • 3

Select boxes next to search items and click the "Remove" button at the top to remove specific items. The search items are grouped by blocks of time that can be deleted together by clicking "Select Sll" within the blue box you want cleared.

      • 4

To stop recording history, click "Pause" from the list on the left.
