"We Are The New Vintage"
So, as much as I didn't want to get chemicals involved in my want to remove all black dye from my hair, I gave in and decided to anyway. Rather than fading it gradually by taking the "soap cap" route or even just rinsing with Dawn dish soap occasionally, I just went after it all at once with a color remover.
And then followed it up with bleach.
This is what my hair looked like just a few days ago...
And this is it now...
Big difference! And my hair isn't even slightly damaged! I obviously haven't removed 100% of the black dye from my hair yet, but it's getting there. I plan to continue using the same bleach I'd used before, and just fade it out gradually. I'm not a fan of the unnatural blonde color AKA yellow, so I'll be happy as long as that fades as well.
If anyone has any tips or tricks, that'd be amazing! I just know I'd seen a few posts about black hair dye removal, and had even posted something about it myself once, so there's my story and progress on the subject.
I also made a video which goes a little further in depth to all of what was just mentioned, if anyone should want to check it out. =0]

Wow! It looks great. I did the same with a few sections of my hair. Took a bit more bleaching tho as I was removing 11 or 12 years of permanent red dye. Its white blonde at the mo. Had a bit of an accident with the bleach LOL, waiting for the hair to grow back.
My only advice is dont bleach too often or your hair apparently dissolves.........My bettie bangs found that out :S
I decided last week on a whim to take the black out of my hair too. I didn't use any remover, all I did was dye over it with the "Born Blond", I used this one: It took out all my blue, most of the pink, and most of the black. I figure one more dye job and it wil be totally blond.... then I'll put more color in. LOL
Yours looks great Tessa, I love how it looks like you did 2 different colors on purpose. Very nice.
Oh, hey! Great minds think alike! I love the Born Blonde bleach, and am soooo glad I went with it. I really probably should have used the Maxi one, but Ultra Blue just sounded so much cooler and more it'll-get-the-job-done-ish. =0B
I went ahead and bleached again last night, so my hair is much lighter, although I still have orange and yellow tones. >.< I'm debating whether or not I want to use a toner to get rid of that, or just go on ahead and dye it all a strawberry blonde color. Hmmm....

Quick update: this is it after bleaching last night...
It's definitely lighter, but rather than hassling with a toner and taking the blonde route, I'm going to dye it a light auburn. =0]
I'll update again with those results later...
I give up on trying to get my hair all one solid color via bleaching. Black hair dye, you win. Kind of.
