How I dyed my hair two-tone brown and red...
So since it's half term I finally decided to do something with my annoying faded red hair... and this time I attempted bleach... with the help of my hairdresser mother of course ;) Basically, I wanted a two tone dark brown and blonde contrast sort of thing so this is how I went about doing it:
Step 1: (no picture) I sectioned off my hair, leaving out the parts I wanted to bleach and dyed the rest of my hair dark brown. I then washed it out and dryed it and by this time I had also done a strand test for the bleach.
Step 2: With a little (okay a LOT) help, I applied the bleach to the section that I left 'faded red'. It's not really a good idea to try bleaching red hair but since I was only doing an underneath section I fugured it probably wouldn't matter too much.
Step 3: after bleaching I used a developer to make any orange/yellow tones less noticeable... it honestly works and without it my hair would've been as yellow as the picture above!
Step 4: as you can see it went more of an orange/pink colour so I decided to take matters into my own hands. This is risky and really NOT recommended but I got the rest of the brown hairdye out of the bin (this is so stupid lol) and even though it had already developed in the tube I squeezed some onto the more pink areas, hoping to somehow sort out the lingering rednes... to my surprise it actually worked though I have absolutely NO idea how! I really wouldn't recommend it as I said... apparently it should've gone a greenish colour!
<- RAINBOW!
Step 5: as you can see, it actually didn't turn out too bad considering my weird technique but I still felt like it was incomplete. So... a couple of days later I went down to the shop and picked up a semi-permanent red...
.....and TADA. I'm actually pretty happy with how this turned out in the end :D
