Online and Computer Privacy - Trustworthy Computing

Microsoft has a longstanding commitment to privacy, which is an integral part of our product and service lifecycle. We work to be transparent in our privacy practices, offer customers meaningful privacy choices, and responsibly manage the data we store. The Microsoft Privacy Principles, our specific privacy statements, and our internal privacy standards guide how we collect, use, and protect customer and partner data.

Our company has more than 40 full-time privacy professionals and several hundred other employees who oversee the application of our privacy policies, standards, and procedures.

Our privacy governance program includes ongoing employee training, identification of emerging privacy issues in the industry, and regular updates to our privacy standards. We continually research and develop technologies that help our engineers enhance privacy protections in our products and services.

Microsoft has published our privacy standards for use by outside developers, with detailed guidance on customer notification and consent, data security and integrity, and user access.

Microsoft supports privacy legislation that facilitates the free flow of information, enhances user privacy, and encourages innovation. We strive for greater interoperability among national privacy regulations and standards, in order to maximize the benefits of cloud computing and online services. We also support organizational accountability to meet privacy regulations and laws.
