It seems like every week there is a new diet pill on the market which promises to shed the fat right from your body with no effort on your part.  But it never takes long before the hype around these diet pills dies away.  There are no miracle diet pills – if there were, we wouldn’t still have an obesity epidemic on our hands.  However, there are numerous diet pills which can help you lose weight so long as you are keeping a balanced diet and exercising.  Sibutramine is one of the popular diet pills because it has been proven effective in helping weight loss by blocking appetite and increasing energy expenditure.

If you start taking Sibutramine with the goal of losing weight overnight, you are going to end up very disappointed.  Further, taking Sibutramine (or any other diet pill) with this mentality is dangerous.  The “lose weight overnight!” mentality causes you to make poor choices in regards to your health which could result in serious consequences.  Before you start taking Sibutramine or any other diet pill, you must:

  • Educate yourself about how it works
  • Set realistic goals
  • Make a diet plan
  • Make an exercise plan
  • Increase your goals as you experience success

Knowing is Half the Battle

Just because you have read a few blurbs about Sibutramine on the net, it does not necessarily mean that you understand the medicine and how it works.  If you start taking Sibutramine without knowing how it works, then you aren’t ever going to be able to make the most of the diet pill.  For example, a lot of people think that Sibutramine will block all of their hunger cravings.  Really, Sibutramine just stops you from comfort eating.  So, you will still need to make healthy eating choices during those times when your body actually is hungry (in need of nutrients and energy).   People who start taking Sibutramine without knowledge of how it works will also have unrealistic goals.  When they don’t meet these goals, they are quick to give up on their diet plans.

Weight Loss Desires and Reality

Your weight loss goal may be to drop 100 pounds so you can look like a supermodel in a bikini when summer starts next month.  But the reality of this is that it isn’t going to happen: no pill can safely cause that much weight loss.  Sibutramine helps weight loss but it is probably just going to cause you to drop a pound or two a week.  This may not seem like a lot at first but it can quickly add up.  In clinical studies, patients who responded to Sibutramine lost 5% of their body weight in 6 months.  If you aren’t realistic about your goals, then you are going to be very disappointed with the results you get from Sibutramine and you will give up before you see real success.

Diet Plans Must Be for More than a Week or Two!

While taking Sibutramine, you must eat a healthy diet.  The reason that most diet and exercise plans fail is because people set unrealistic expectations.  For example, a lot of people say that they are going to cut out all their favorite fatty and starchy foods during the diet.  This may work for the first week or two of the Sibutramine diet.  But, after a month, you are going to be craving those foods even more because they are forbidden.  A realistic diet plan should leave some room for your favorite foods.  Instead of cutting out all junk foods, just cut out the ones which you really don’t like that much anyway but allow yourself your favorite ones occasionally.

Get Help with Exercise

If your obesity problem is from being sedentary all day, then it is going to be tough to get into an exercise routine.  Without exercise though, you aren’t going to see great results from Sibutramine.  Plus, you must work on building up muscle mass while taking Sibutramine because this will keep your metabolism rate going strong so you don’t gain weight back after you stop taking Sibutramine.   The best advice for getting into an exercise routine is to find help or support.  This can mean riding your bike to work with a neighbor, going on a nightly stroll with your spouse, or signing up with a tough trainer at a gym.

You’ve Had Success: Now What?

After you take Sibutramine for a month, you should already see some weight loss benefits and feel better.  At this junction, it is important to reassess your weight loss goals and plans.  This will be different for everyone – such as increasing exercise time daily or readjusting meal plans accordingly.  Just don’t let these Sibutramine successes go unnoticed or you risk wasting all the effort you’ve put into weight loss.
