Weight loss pills – effects and side effects

This article provides information on different weight loss drugs, what effects they can have and what are their side effects. It is not an attempt to advertise one drug over the other but just a short review on some of them. Most of these drugs are prescription drugs so it is not advised to give your medication to another person. Most of them are recommended to be used as a part of a whole weight loss program together with a diet and exercise routines. They all have side effects that should not be ignored. If any of these side effects persist, ask for medical aid and consult with your doctor about continuing the treatment with this drug.

Didrex is a prescription drug that stimulates the brain’s centers for appetite, thus lowering our need for food. It is best used in combination with exercises and an all-out weight loss plan. It has a few side effects, which mostly include gastrointestinal problems, chest pain, sleeplessness and pounding of the heart. Pregnant women and those that are currently breast feeding should refrain from using Didrex.

Another weight loss medication that suppresses your appetite is called Xenical. This drug works together with digestive enzymes in your stomach. By combing itself with these enzymes Xenical controls the absorption of fats. This drug has several side effect including oily stool (which often leads to extraction of undigested food), diarrhea, back pains, gum problems, rectal pain, vomiting, abdominal pain and others side effects.

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that is best used in combination with diet and exercises. Unfortunately, this drug does not have a long term effect since the body eventually becomes resistant to its influence. The usual side effects are chest pains, fatigue, diarrhea, headache and dry mouth. Not so often a person using this drug may experience psychosis, confusion and depression.

One of the most popular weight loss drugs is Meridia. This drug targets your brain and sends it messages that the body is full. It is prescribed only to people with serious obesity issues. It should not be used by breast feeding and pregnant women. Also, people with certain allergies should avoid this medication. Meridia should not be combined with antidepressants. This weight loss drug is recommended to be used only for a time no longer than 10-15 weeks as it can be addictive. It is shows best results if combined with regular exercise routines and low calories diet recommended by a nutritionist or other health expert.

These were just some of the more effective weight loss drugs available today. As you could see none of them offer instant and guaranteed success on its own and they all show to be much more effective if they are a part of a regular weight loss program that should include diet and exercises. These drugs are all prescription based and should not be used by someone who just wants to lose a couple of pound they’ve gained during the holidays.
