[Satellite TODAY 02-01-12] SES has relocated the SES-3 satellite from its former location over North America to serve Asia at the 108.2 degrees East orbital slot, the operator announced Jan. 31.
SES-3 was launched in July of 2011. SES said the satellite’s drift began in mid-December and is expected to arrive at its new orbital location on Feb. 6. In its new location, the satellite will aim to provide coverage of the Middle East and South Asia regions supporting such applications as video, voice, data, and end-to-end communications networks.
“The relocation of the SES-3 satellite is a result of continued engagement and dialogue with our customers and in response to the growing demand for bandwidth to support critical communications capabilities. This move is a confirmation of our commitment to provide affordable and vital capability for our government customers,” SES Government Solutions President and CEO Tip Osterthaler said in a statement.
