Windows Explorer won't save settings

Discussion in 'Windows XP' started by Catt, May 7, 2007.

    Hi,
In Windows XP I have chosen "Tools/Folder Options/"View" tab and checked
"remember each folders view settings" but Windows Explorer will not keep the
setting. It wants to open in 'icon' view all the time. I've tried to change
it several times but it seems to have a mind of its own.
Along the same subject, and probably related, if I choose to save a picture,
I right click the pic and choose save as but when it opens up the 'c' drive
it has the last file in "c" (which begins with the letter Z) and the view
setting is set on "details" but its always backwards (starting at the end of
    names).
I've never had this problem before in XP . It always could be manipulated
and changed and would save the same way all the time. All of a sudden it has
changed. So why won't Windows Explorer obey the settings and why does it keep
    reverting?I hope someone can help.
    Thanks
    Catt

What is the service pack level? Is it as at SP2? This was a common problem
prior to SP2 where the saved views was limited to 400. SP2 increased this
to 5000. Also you could run the edit on Kelly's site to increase it to the
    maximum of 8000.

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 2: Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.
