Solved: My Documents rearranging itself problem
I have the icons in the My Documents folder arranged in a way that I like them. However, they keep rearranging themselves to be alphabetical, which means that I have to keep rearranging them into the order I like them. It's been getting worse the last few days, so I thought to ask if someone knew how to keep it from happening. Any help would be great, thanks.

Hello and welcome

Try this

Go into (my) Documents (just documents in vista) click the view tab and put a check next to "auto arrange" should save your settings..

In Documents theres two view tabs, see attached, if you don't get the second tab, try hitting the alt key...

Good luck

Thank you, I'll try that, but it sounds like it would work.

EDIT: Ok, that didn't work, since it happened again. Anyone have anything else?

How are you arranging them?

Well, it's not alphabetical or anything like that, it's mostly just that I like certain folders in certain places. I guess I'm a bit OCD like that. For example, I have the icons in the Tiles view (with three rows) and the top three folders are Fanfics, Bitlord, and My Games. It's not really all that organized, but the folders are in the order that I like them to be.

Are you dragging these files and folders to the positions that you want?

If so I had heard about people doing this but I have never done it. Then I have heard that some of the Windows updates MAY affect this and wipe out the use of this dragging the arrangement.

I know it does NOT work on Windows 7 as I have tried it. I do NOT have a Vista machine to try it out on.

I just set mine (vista home prem) to tiles, made 3 rows (like you) and moved them all around (no particular order) rebooted, and they stayed.

I just looked somewhere else and noticed this, go to documents>tools (next to the view tab in my 1st post)>folder options>view tab scroll down to "remember each folders view settings" put a check in the box, click apply...theres also a box (on the same page) to apply to folders, maybe click that also and hit apply......

good luck
