How can I remove Read Only Attribute in My Documents Folder

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP Home with SP2 and My Documents
folder (and others) has the attribute "read only" and cannot copy it to a CD
for that reason. When I click that attribute off it comes back on after I
close the menu and open the folder again. Is there a way to get rid of
that attribute?
