When I go to attatch a file to an email, browse for a picture for my desktop background or choose a file to open in paint, all file names are in reverse alphabetical order. Unfortunately, even when I opt for them to be displayed in order of name the preference is only temporary and not remember for the next time.
This does not happen however when I browse for files through windows explorer.
Any ideas why it's not saving my preferences?

Unfortunately this is already checked.
As I said, the problem occurs when I'm trying to open a file with a program like Paint or the Gimp, or attatching a file to an email or IM (and other things similar to this, like saving etc). Thanks for trying though. Any other ideas? |

Hi Brom,
Just a couple of checks, are the files sorted in alphabetical order in the files? If not go to View, Arrange Icons By, and select the Name option. This should set all your folders to display in Alphabetical order. I have had a look on my own system using Outlook, O/Express, Thunderbird and Paint and all of them seem to display in the same order as the files are when you open the folder. Hope this helps |

Right this is exactly the issue. As I said, perhaps not clearly, when I select -> View -> Arrange icons by -> Name it will only change temporarily. When I come back to say open or save a file later, it will have changed back to reverse alphabetical.
The issues really is that it wont save my preferences Thanks again, perhaps I should try elsewhere. |

Go to Windows Explorer - sort the files as you would want to see them - hold down the ctrl button and close the window with the "X" button (top right). This should force Windows to remember your preferences.
