Windows XP >> remember each folder's view settings

by Steve » Tue, 02 Nov 2004 20:12:16 GMT

Hi

Regarding the Remember each folder's view settings checkbox, is it true that
it only works with local drive and network drive ? It works ok with my
local C drive, but I can't seem to get it to work on floppy drive and CD
drive.

Please confirm or let me know if there is anything I can do.
Thanks
Steve

it does not work with floppy or CD for me either, so i guess it's just for
the C: drive. Kleo

Pretty much so. Added info:

By default, Windows is designed to remember 400 different folder settings
(200 local folders and 200 network folders, for a total of 400 folders).
Windows will start to re-use these stored settings on a 'Most Recently Used'
basis, once the folder limit has been exceeded. You can change this to 8000
by adding this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Note: XP-SP2 ups it to 5000.

I have a user's folder view setting set for "Remember each
folder's view settings" unders Tools, Folder Options,
View. However, when the user makes changes to the view
of a particular folder it is not retained. The user can
make changes to folder views that are global, but
individual folder options are not being remembered by the
system. What is the cause of this? What is the fix?

Hi,

Even though I have always had checked "Remember each folder's view settings"
in my Folder Options, all of a sudden (sometimes in the same day), the view
reverts back to the default. I therefore have to keep changing it back to
the way I want it. And it's really getting frustrating!

Can anyone help me?

Please?

Thank you,

5. Remember each folders view settings is not working.

6. 'Remember each folders view settings' dosn't work.

In XP v 5.1 Build 2600
I want Windows Explorer windows
narrow enough to set them side by side
and have them fit on my monitor screen.

But though I have:
'Remember each folders view settings'
checked in:
Tools > Folder Options > View
when I open a folder on my desktop
or on a drive that is not my main drive
the size has always expanded.

If I reset the size it will last for the day
but when I reboot the set size is again lost.

Also, sometimes the status bar disappears.

Is there a way to get Windows Explorer
to hold to the configured size
and keep the status bar?
Like, changing settings in the registry?

Thank you,
Emory

7. Remembering the Folders View Settings - Windows XP

8. How to fix annoyance, folder view doesn't stay (despite unticking "Remember each folder's view settings").

This is a major annoyance, esp. since I've gone back to Win98SE at home and
it's obedient behaviour and coming back to this recalcitrant OS here at work
<g>.

I like the details folder view with enough space to see filename and date.
Not only does that spacing always shrink to some default after a while
several times a day, after a reboot, I lose the details view and it defaults
to the large icon view. I'm really fed up with this behaviour. Can someone
recommend a reliable solution to this? I'd really appreciate it.

TIA. :oD
