Open a folder. Go to the tools menu, then go to the view menu. One of the boxes down on the list, says Remember Each folders View settings.I have that checked.HOWEVER, after I shut off the computer, and sometimes after I have ran any number of programs, all my folders reset to Icon view. Something is wrong with the system as it is not saving each folders view setting. Could this be due to a virus, or a corrupt entry in the registery file?
Folder Settings And Lost Folder View
When I woke up this morning I turned on my computer as usual. I didn't notice anything was wrong untill I accessed My Computer. The toolbar on the left side (usually has options like burn to CD and whatnot, and this is normally the area where you can preview images. ) was missing. I checked every folder and it's the same thing. I figured I could fix it in the folder settings, so I opened the control pannel, only to find that, it had changed. Instead of being the normal, web site (ish) setting, where I can click links and so forth, it was just all icons.
Saving Folder View Settings
Running windows XP Pro and networked wirelessly to a windows XP home with admin priveleges. Both have latest service packs. Had same problem as some past threads regarding recalling folder view settings. Followed that advice and deleted the recommended registry lines + applied Kelly's BAG Limit fix. Reset individual folder views/settings and these now saved OK. EXCEPT as follows:Through My Comp I open Drive C: and window opens at size/pos saved but does not remember that I set VIEW/FOLDERS for a split pane.If I then continue and expand, say, My Documents, or any other folder which has had its view defined and saved, then close current window, the next time I open a folder from my desk top (eg My folder, Download, etc) it opens at the size and view settings of the "Drive C:" window. I can then reset that window view again until I repeat steps above when it is again lost.
Apply Folder View Settings To Subfolders
I have quite a few albums of photos that I've taken from vacations/parties/weddings. I have them all in the "My Pictures/Digital Camera" folder. I have the events setup as the subfolders names. I do not like to use Folder Task to set my view settings, and instead of changing the view settings one by one in each of the subfolder, is there a fast way so that I can apply the same folder settings to all my subfolders in "My Pictures/Digital Camera" without changing other folder's view settings?

Stop The Folder View Changing After I Browse In Thumbnail View?
This is astoundingly annoying. Windows is great at remembering what view I last viewed a folder in... but when I click a "BROWSE" button in a program that likes to default to thumbnail view while browsing for files, Windows picks this up and the next time I go into that folder in Explorer, lo and behold it's in Thumbnail view, not the view I like to use.when (while browsing from a program) you flick through a few subfolders to get to the file you want to open. Windows then sets ALL those folders to the thumbnail view you browsed in from the program. The only workaround is to change the view while browsing from a program - but since many programs like to force you to start browsing in thumbnail view,
Missing Tabs Greyed Out Buttons Settings Not Being Saved
i'm pretty sure my entire fiasco has something to do with my registry.in my display properties i only have three tabs, screen saver, appearance, settings.in folder options "show common tasks in folders" is greyed out and "single click to open" is also greyed out and other options throughout certain settings are greyed out in speech properties the apply button is greyed out and when i click on audio input to adjust the volume the microphone volume it is way down and i bring it back up and press ok and go back and its down again.a lot of my settings are reverting back shortly after i apply them. its been like this for a couple months me being too lazy to do anything about it and before all this happened my system was working perfectly fine. then one day everything changed. i'm pretty sure its not a virus or a worm but i think something is wrong with my registry.
No Quick Launch Bar On Start / Desktop Settings Not Saved
Very recently, I have been having a problem where my quick launch bar is not showing on start-up. I can enable it OK but next time I start up it's gone again, plus the apps on the bar go back to alpha order not matter how I arrange them. Also, and I think related, if I rearrange my desktop icons, next time I boot the icons are back in alpha order. When I look at the quick launch folder properties, the folder appears to be read only. If I uncheck this, it appears to take, but next time I look it's read only again. Because of performance issues I used a registry cleaner to clear out old items, whether this is the cause I don't know, but I'm guessing that for some reason the save settings on exit is not working.
Switching Default Folder View When Opening Folder.
My computer started opening folders with the default view set to Folder view (shows the folder tree on the left) and I wish to change it back the regular view.
Outlook Express Email Error - Message Not Saved To Sent Folder
I'm running Outlook Express on Windows XP Professional. When I send an email the message is sent with an undisplayed warning and the message remains in the Outbox after it has been sent resulting in it being continually resent until I manually delete it from the Outbox. A copy of the message is not saved to the Sent Folder even though the option is checked.I have run Nortons Utilities - and other utilities - and cleaned up Windows Registry and other Windows Errors - to fix my problem (without success). Is my Outbox damaged? Do I have to restore Outlook Express?
Unable To View Firewall Settings

Documents & Settings/user Folder Unreadable. Folder Removed
I booted up my home pc as per usual last night and logged into my user account, only to find that EVERYTHING attrubuted to my login has pretty much vanished. 'My Documents' folder is completely empty of any music or pictures I had saved, my desktop is empy bar for the recycle bin, and any programs that were installed and attributed to my profile have been erased, i ran chdsk utility and it informed me that "documents & settings/(my user) folder unreadable. documents & settings/(my user) folder removed." i tried a system restore point, thinking that the folder must've corrupted at some point since my last login, so restored to a point over a month ago, and the result was "System was not restored. no changes have occured within your computer.

Folder View Options
Every time I open a window now, I get a "folder list" (explorer?) to the right and inside the window proper. I have tried clicking and un-clicking just about every option in the folders options list under "View". I eben click apply changes to all windows, I have clicked and unclicked "Remember each window's view settings".I even unclick the folders button on the tool bar of the window, and close the window, hoping the window will remember I don't want the folder list displayed, still no luck.

When I right click a sub-folder then click "Properties" the properties sheet does not pop up. Nothing happens. hen I right click top-level folder such as "My Computer" then click Properties, the property sheet in this case does pop up.This does not seem to be a common problem but in fact this was discussed on this forum at
XP Folder Options Will Not Allow View Hidden
Windows XP service pack 2.I have a churches computer that was infected with "INFOSTEALER", "TROJAN.VB.jy" and "DOWNLOADER.CRYPTIC.f" that I volunteered to try to fix.I searched the threads and followed the instructions listed to remove them and was successful. Thankyou for the help. But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN-" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. What did I miss?

Folder View Reset To Tiles Lately By Itself?
I have set my folder view to 'detail view' and applied this to each folder. This has worked so far. Since I have installed some more applications (can't imagine that that has anything to do with it), each time I (re)start the computer my folder view is reset to 'tiles' view.Is there somewhere hardcoded that on x number of folder views it is automatically reset to 'tiles view' for some silly reason? How can I make XP clear that I prefer 'detail view' for as long as I choose to keep using XP?
How ToPut Saved Pictures Back In My Pictures Folder?
I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
Columns/details Disappeared In Folder View.
Possibly this is a very simple question, but so far I have no clue how to solve it. I have XP Home /SP2. Normally, in Folder view, I often used an option to turn on a column named "album" for my music files. Now this option is not there anymore. There are only basic columns/details: name, size, total 8 choices, but nothing that relates to music or photographs
Change The Default Folder / File View
And of course you can go in and change it to sort by "Type" or view as "Icons" or "Thumbnails" but as so as you close it it reverts, and the next time you open it it will be back to "List" view, arranged by "Name."Having it sorted by name is acceptable, so as i said it never really bothered me, but now one of my computers is sorting by "Modified" which is just not working for me.So basically I'm trying to find out if there is a way to change the default folder/file view in these basic Open, Save, Save As, etc dialog box's.

Fix Folder View Memory Loss
Windows XP forgets my folder view settings. Is there a fix? By default, Windows XP will remember the view settings for the 400 most recently used folders. After that, XP will begin overwriting the data of the oldest folder, and its view setting will be lost.
Can't View Folder Tree In Explorer
My preferred view of Windows Explorer is a window with details listed and the folder tree on the left side of the screen. I recently purchased a new Emachine and cannot change my default view so the folder tree is present when I open Windows Explorer. When I click on ''tools-folder options'' and select ''apply to all folders'', the desired change does not take place. I noticed that the ''apply'' button does not activate when I click to make this change.
Switch Explorer To Show Folder View By Default
I was just reading some of the tips about setting Win Explorer to open with whatever folder you want as default, and it reminded me of an annoyance I have with WinXp.Is there a way to make Win Explorer open showing a normal "Folders" view tree in the left pane, instead of the weird WinXp thing (I guess you'd call it "quick links to common functions")

Changing The Folder View From 180 To 300 Pixels
Is there a setting in XP home and pro where you can set the number of pixels in the name from 180, which appears to be standard, to about 300 and have it reset all the files in folders set to open in "details" but do it all at once (registry or somewhere else), so I won't have to change this setting for each folder set to open the files with "details". I've got all this space out in the right 1/3 of the window and I would just like to set all the folder options which are to open with the "details view" to open with the file name at about 300 pixels instead of 180 pixels, so I won't have to reset each one manually.
Auto Arrange Folder Views Does Not Work For Icons View
I've had problems with my auto-arrange not working in folders, (not on the desktop). I like to have all of my folders in the Icon view (instead of list, details, etc). My auto-arrange by name works for all views but the Icons and Tiles view settings. I've also done the registry tweak to the BagMRU and stuff too.
