I was born in Detroit, Michigan, where I was raised, and lived until joining the U.S. Air Force, where I served for more than a decade, "visiting" Panama, South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
I have been writing since grade school, mostly as an outlet, and mostly fiction. I have self-published one book, "Timey's Conscription and Other Short Stories", which can be checked out at "Timeybook.com". There is an excerpt here at Helium; go to novel excerpts, and look for my name.
Since I like to stay current on world events (a hobby that became ingrained when I was in the military, and often watched today's current events on the news, and tomorrow found myself participating in them), I find it natural to express my opinions about them in an outlet like this, and was pleased when Helium asked that I do so. Being able to offer my opinions, and read those of others is the best way to refine them, and the more refined your opinion is, the more useful and valuable it becomes.
I am glad to offer what I can to you through Helium, and, in turn, to take from you what you offer me.

Here in the U.S.A., military membership is voluntary. There is no forced membership, or draft anymore, although young men are supposed to register with "selective service" (information used to locate and notify for draft purposes) at the age of eighteen (few do). All of the young men and women who have served in any conflict since the late nineteen-seventies have done so as volunteers.
