Royce says the goal of Royce Yoder Pottery is to make work that functions both practically
and visually. All of the pieces Royce
makes are microwave and dishwasher safe
as well as lead free. Since each piece
is hand-thrown on a wheel and
hand-glazed, some variations among the
pieces may occur.
Royce
Yoder became interested in making pots while attending Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas, the only art professor at Hesston was a potter so He taught Royce how to make functional, utilitarian pots. After graduating with an art degree from Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana in 1976, his goal was to acquire his own studio and be a full-time potter. In 1983 that goal became a reality when Royce built his own studio outside
Lederach, Pennsylvania. In 1988 he built a house on the same property and he currently resides there with his wife and three children.
For Royce, the goal of his work is to make pots that are both visually beautiful and functionally useful. He regularly accomplishes this goal. Beyond his work, Royce is also a born again Christian. His beliefs come out in his work as he daily seeks to glorify God in every pot he makes. Royce is very dedicated to his work even though some days it is tedious. He faithfully provides for his wife and three grown children by working hard in his studio daily. |
