Removal of Media Factory Inc. Works

In early December 2004 AnimeSuki received a C&D (Cease & Desist) request from a Japanese law firm acting on behalf of the Japanese anime studio Media Factory, asking us to stop linking to the following titles:

  • Gankutsuou
  • RahXephon
  • Genshiken
  • Kimi ga Nozomu Eien

After verifying the authenticity of the request, AnimeSuki quickly removed these titles from the index. However, while the letter didn't explicitly demand it, we also decided at the time not to list any other titles from Media Factory, including any future titles.

Since that time AnimeSuki has received several more C&D letters (mostly from the US anime studio Funimation), to which we quickly complied. In addition other Japanese anime studios, either by themselves or through partners (such as Funimation) have sent C&D letters to members of the fansub community. Simply put, such requests are nothing new anymore, and we don't give those requests any special treatment other than obviously complying by removing the specifc titles mentioned in those requests.

As AnimeSuki remains committed to listing all unlicensed English fansubs, we have come to the decision to treat the C&D letter we received from Media Factory like the other C&D letters we have received. This means that we will obviously not list any of the specific titles listed in their request, but not give their request any further special treatment.
