There must still be a codec problem somewhere...
Didn't have much luck after trying these solutions here either. Win7DSFilterTweaker didn't do anything, and installing the last K-lite version, either for 64 or x86, or both made mkv readable, but made regular avi files crash for some reasons. This is why I hate these big codecs packs, always causing conflicts and such. Enabling Raw video in ffdshow is the key, though.
So here's an easier and healthier-for-your-comp way to do it: just go to the source so you know what you're installing and where.
- First, forget about K-lite or other alternatives like CCCP.
- Then, install the last ffdshow version (rev. 3498) for 64 bits, for your everyday use (be sure to check Raw video when it asks you to choose your video codecs)
- Install the last ffdshow version, but for 32 bits this time (same thing with enabling Raw video), for older programs still using them, like Virtualdubmod or...:
- Matroska Splitter (Haali), to read the mkv files, obviously. Though I tried installing the last build (1.10.348.15) and tested on some files and somehow the audio was synched, but the timing was wrong, like it was changing the FPS or something. Seems this version is a beta trying to work on both 32 and 64 systems, but it looks pretty instable so far. So I went back and installed an older build (1.08.122.18), and it's all back to normal.
