Topic: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

i found the solution for the blank video preview in some video files like .mkv in Subtitle workshop.
Just install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.8.0 and during install check the 2 options in ffdshow
configuration. 1.enable proccessing for raw video and 2. force RGB..  output.
and voila, Subtitle Workshop 2.51 works great for all video files(.mkv, .avi, ...etc...)
I hope this helps a lot of you. be well.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Thank you a lot, this help me a lot and there is a long time that i was searching an issue.

Enable Processing for RAW into ffdshow configuration work great.
I was asking why ffdshow didn't launch when I was using subtitle workshop.
So I only get sound with a black screen, and here you come smile

Thank you again Mr Spiros wink

PS : Don't forget to choose Direct Vob Sub 2.33 instead of 2.39 by default during installation of the K-lite Codec Pack.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

I have solved the problem following a different path - Microsoft uses it's own codecs in Windows 7 so I used a tool called Win7DSFilterTweaker_1.8.exe  http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_pref … weaker.htm  that allows you to override the Microsoft codecs. Scroll down to the entry MPEG2 and untick Microsoft and tick whatever other MPEG2 codecs you have installed.  I selected  MPEG-2 (Gabest) . I can now load MPEG2 files and standard definition mkv as well as avi's.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

I've got the same problem when playing xvid videos with SubstitlesWorkshop 4 Beta 4.
Audio is output ok,
but instead of video I get just "garbage".

I've got win7x64 with both latest x86 & x64 ffdshow tryouts installed  (ffdshow_rev3507_20100707_clsid_icl10 & ffdshow_rev3507_20100707_clsid_x64)

And I can't find these two options in ffdshow [which djstx2003 suggested and fix the problem]:

So I'm asking you (in "video decoder configuration" of x86 ffdshow) :
the 1st option "enable proccessing for raw video"
Is it at Codecs>(end of the list)Raw video??? ----> Do I have to change it from disabled to 'All supported'  ???

the 2st option "force RGB..  output"
Where is this option???? I can't find it.
Maybe it's on older releases of ffdshow?
I even started the install of the latest K-Lite ω6.2.0 full package, just in case,
and there wasn't such option among it's settings there.

Thank you

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

I have a problem with Subtitle workshop 2.51 I just reinstalled on my new pc with Windows 7 (32)
I hear the audio and can see the subtitles but no video. I guess there is a codec problem and installed the latest K-Lite Mega codec Pack 6.2 and during install checked the 2 options in ffdshow configuration: 1.enable proccessing for raw video and 2. force RGB..  output.
Still no luck.

Anyone any suggestions what else it could be ?
Your help is much appreciated smile

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and Subtitle Workshop 2.51.

I was previously using Vista Home Premium, SP2. I have been experimenting for several days now, and have found that SW works pretty well even on Windows 7 (I've installed K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.5.0). At first I was running SW with Vista compatability, but have observed that it's not necessary to run the program in compatability mode; it will work with Windows 7 all the same.

There is, however, one small hitch. The subtitles now change only on the video screen, and not in the text box below the screen, i.e. the first (or selected) subtitle remains highlighted for the duration of the video, and you have to search for a particular subtitle if you then want to edit it.

Has anyone else had the same problem? If so, how did you go about fixing it?

There must still be a codec problem somewhere...

Didn't have much luck after trying these solutions here either. Win7DSFilterTweaker didn't do anything, and installing the last K-lite version, either for 64 or x86, or both made mkv readable, but made regular avi files crash for some reasons. This is why I hate these big codecs packs, always causing conflicts and such. Enabling Raw video in ffdshow is the key, though.

So here's an easier and healthier-for-your-comp way to do it: just go to the source so you know what you're installing and where.
- First, forget about K-lite or other alternatives like CCCP.
- Then, install the last ffdshow version (rev. 3498) for 64 bits, for your everyday use (be sure to check Raw video when it asks you to choose your video codecs)
- Install the last ffdshow version, but for 32 bits this time (same thing with enabling Raw video), for older programs still using them, like Virtualdubmod or...:
- Matroska Splitter (Haali), to read the mkv files, obviously. Though I tried installing the last build (1.10.348.15) and tested on some files and somehow the audio was synched, but the timing was wrong, like it was changing the FPS or something. Seems this version is a beta trying to work on both 32 and 64 systems, but it looks pretty instable so far. So I went back and installed an older build (1.08.122.18), and it's all back to normal. smile
- ????
- Profit!

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Thanks for your suggestions, ewokwok. I'm not sure I completely understand the steps you recommend.
Should I remove the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.5.0, and then reinstall just the ffdshow versions (first 64 bit then 32 bit)? Do you have links for these? Do you also have a link for the Matroska splitter?
Just one other thing. If I DO remove the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and just reinstall the ffdshow components, won't this affect playback on my other media players, e.g., Media Player Classic?

Sorry for not answering earlier, don't know if you'll read this, but anyway:
Here's a link for both versions http://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche … dshow.html (French mirror, click on "telecharger" on both buttons to download)

If you dont have any problems with K-Lite as it is, I'd suggest not touching anything. If ain't broke... wink But no, you won't have any problems, since these players already use the ffdshow version in K-Lite. Basically ffdshow can read about everything, except for mkv (use matroska splitter for that, which you can easily find the latest version on google, or an older build like 1.08 here: http://www.mediafire.com/?k43gszh9echwx1s) and that's what codec packs use, but they also add a bunch of other stuff that may cause conflicts now and then.

Edit: I re-read your post from 2 months ago, seems you'd like SW to display the lines in the text box at the same time as the video? If that's what you're asking for then it has nothing to do with codecs, SW has always acted this way.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

It is too tough to see any type of video in W7..

So any suggestion will be appreciated.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Thanks Mr.Ewokwok.
This is good guide for people like me with Window 7 32 or 64 bit.
I have no problem after follow your instruction.

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

For me the problem was not only MKV but SW 2.51 didn't play any movies and it crashed as soon as I load some movie. None of above solutions worked for me so I've found my (easier) solution.

First of all, I use Shark007 codec pack (http://shark007.net/index.html) on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

1. SW 2.51 is 32bit and uses 32bit codecs, launch 32bit Settings Application of Sharky007 as Administrator (Important)

2. In Config tab under Subtitle Control instead of option "Direct VobSub" mark "FFDshow/External".

3. In SWAP tab under XVID/DIVX/MPV4 and MPEG2 groups just mark "Use FFDShow's Codec"

4. Press Exit and you are done

Re: Windows 7 and Subtitle workshop 2.51 working solution

Thanks a lot ThErIpPeR,

I decided to try your solution and it works very good. I had ffdshow before and didn't tried to uninstall it). Just installed Shark (version for Win7), made changes in settings you proposed and SW 2.51 finally works. PS. I have Win7 64bit.
