Now You Can Share Your Google+ Circles With Others

Google has rolled out a new feature for Google+ that lets users share the circles they’ve curated with their friends.

“Starting today, you can actually share your favorite circles with others,” Google+ engineer Owen Prater said on Google+. “So if you’ve got a great Photographers or Celebrities circle, for instance, then you can share a copy with your friends.”

A new “Share” link now appears when you hover over a circle on the Google+ Circles page. Clicking the link will let you add a comment and share that circle with your friends on Google+. The search giant is careful to point out that this only shares the members of the circle you’re sharing and not what you’ve named the circle. That will always remain private.

The young social network is on the rise ever since it opened itself up to the public. A recent report claims that Google+ now has 43 million users, an increase of 30% since dropping the invite barrier. Another report pegs Google+ as the eight largest social network in the world, just behind MySpace and LinkedIn.

  1. Circle sharing is a nice feature. Even yesterday I posted the link of Trey Ratcliff, asking my friends to follow him (because I was amazed at his photography).
I never thought of such a feature, but thanks to Google+ team, I’m using it :)

  2. Well…there’s an upside and downside to this.

  3. Definitely saw this coming, and glad it’s here.

  4. I have an account but I don’t know how to use it

  5. Interesting idea.Learning social behavior(syndication) from each other.

  6. Cool! I think this is feature that you don’t find in Facebook.

  7. Enfin, on peut partager ses cercles #Google #plus

  8. This is a cool feature, though it stops just short of something I’ve been hoping for: public circles other can add themselves to! I would love to be on a list for content for certain “big but personal” G+ accounts!

Also, despite how much I like Google+, I can’t help but notice there are no +1′s on this article (though the button seems to be broken to me)

  9. Cool feature…but wasn’t the upside of the circles having the ability to not show people what circles they were part of? I can understand the generic circles “Celebs” and “Artists” etc but even then that could cause some drama.

“Umm, why am I NOT in your celebrity circle?”
“Oh because I’m not one huh?”
“Well congrats you just made my crap circle then!”
    *Share circle with everyone*

    ^ Exaggerated scenario…

  10. Great idea! Leverage existing tech and one-up FB!

  11. Great, can now essentially create groups in g+

  12. This is a great idea, but it’s also problematic.

What’s happening is that you are cloning that circle. The cloned circle then lives with the users but no longer receives the benefit of updates to the original. Perhaps a more symbiotic relationship would be beneficial. For instance, let’s say I share my Beer circle with you. Let’s say I make updates to my beer circle, it would be great if your new Beer circle was linked to mine and you’d have the option of adding people I’ve added (or subtracting subtracted).

The Scoble Effect. I’m really grateful that Robert Scoble put me in one of his shared circles. I had to turn off notifications on my phone for now because since he shared the circle, I have 2500 new followers and counting. I am not complaining, I’m just demonstrating to power of Scoble.

  13. 1) Can someone from Mashable share a circle with Mashable employees on Google+?

2)Why can’t I comment with my Google account?
