JOHNSTOWN, Ohio -- Is it a computer glitch? Is it human error? Whatever it is, a Johnstown man wants it to stop.
It could happen to any one of us. Joe Litwin just wanted to get his laptop repaired.
So he called Sony, and Sony promised to send him a box and a label.
But he's getting so much more.
Litman was waiting for that box from Sony. Instead, he got a call on his cellphone.
"I got a telephone call on Thursday from a gentleman in North Carolina asking if I was a Sony technician," Litwin said.
Technician? Litwin is waiting for a box.
"I got to thinking, 'Maybe it's just a coincidence. Maybe something got switched up, and maybe my box has his information on it.' "
When he got home from work, there was a large box on his doorstep -- with someone else's desktop computer.
"So I bring it inside, and I open it up … As soon as I open it up, I see Sony on one of the pages as well as information about what's wrong with the computer."
Litwin spent a very long time on the telephone with Sony tech support in another country. They were unable to understand his problem and unwilling to give him a supervisor.
The next day, two more computers arrived -- also in need of repair. And then four more.
"I'm getting computers mailed to me. I can't fix these things.
"I don't want the responsibility."
The owners of these computers have no idea they sent them to someone's house.
To add insult to injury, Sony finally sent a box for Litman to mail in his troubled computer and the box is too small.
Litwin is waiting for another box and waiting to see how many more broken computers will find their way to his doorstep.
