Extras

Tools, toys, features, and applications to get content into and out of Instapaper.

Read Later bookmarklet

Add this bookmark to your Favorites in Internet Explorer. Then simply select it when you're on a page that you want to read later.

Read Later Right-click this and select "Add to Favorites..."
A "Saved!" message will briefly appear in the corner of the page.

If you use folders in Instapaper, each folder has a bookmarklet to save pages directly into it under the Folder Tools section in the sidebar.

Instapaper for iPhone and iPad

Instapaper's critically acclaimed, award-winning iPhone app is the most popular way to read Instapaper content. View your saved pages in the mobile-optimized Text view. Instapaper is popular among subway commuters and iPod Touch owners because it stores your articles for reading even if you're offline.

Email in links and long messages

You can email links or forward long email messages, such as newsletters, directly to your Instapaper account. Each account has its own secret, random email address. Anything sent to that address gets added to Instapaper.

Google Reader

Send items directly from Google Reader simply by clicking the Instapaper Read Later bookmarklet with an item selected.

This even works on the mobile, iPhone-friendly Google Reader site.

Supporting iPhone and iPad apps

Over 140 iPhone and iPad apps support sending pages directly to Instapaper using the Developer API, including:

Kindle automatic wireless delivery

Reading on the Kindle's non-reflective, e-ink screen is easy on the eyes and great for longer content.

Instapaper provides Kindle-compatible files, easily transferred at no charge via USB, containing the Text versions of your saved pages in any folder.

Additionally, you can set up wireless delivery to automatically send your most recent Instapaper stories every day or week. Note: Amazon assesses a surcharge for each wireless delivery, and wireless delivery is not available in all countries.

Instapaper also provides ePub files for other electronic reading devices that support ePub, including most Sony Readers and the Barnes & Noble Nook.

NetNewsWire

Brent Simmons' popular Mac OS X feed reader, NetNewsWire, can send articles directly to Instapaper.

Simply select "Send to Instapaper" from the News menu, and the currently selected feed item will be added to your Instapaper account.

NetNewsWire for iPhone also supports Instapaper.

Instapaper Text bookmarklet

Install this bookmarklet to instantly view any compatible web page in Instapaper's Text view, right in your browser.

Instapaper Text Right-click this and select "Add to Favorites..."

This is for immediate viewing and does not add the page to your Instapaper account. It's functionally very similar to Arc90's Readability, but with a different technical approach. They had the text-bookmarklet idea first, and you may like theirs better, so try Readability if you like this.

Developer API

The Developer API allows third-party applications to add URLs to Instapaper.

Are you using the API? I'd love to hear from you. Email me.
