Nadeshiko Corps:23 Days of Secrecy

May 19, 2010

Dear Friends,

Fuji Television’s docu-drama “Nadeshiko Corps – 23 Days of Secrecy” has won the Silver World Medal at the 2010 New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards. It was announced during the ceremony which took place on May 3rd in New York.

“Nadeshiko Corps – 23 Days of Secrecy” is about the true story which took place during World War II in Japan. During World War II, kamikaze pilots boarded military jets loaded with bombs and fuel for a one-way flight to plunge into enemy ships as “human bombs.” World War II newspapers reported that Kamikaze pilots took off with smiles on their faces. But the Nadeshiko Corps- - school girls who were appointed to take care of the pilots, secretly witnessed the opposite. Many sad truths and struggles of the young pilots are uncovered through an actual diary written by one of the girls. When I saw this TV program for the first time, I cried. I cried throughout the show. Many people can probably imagine how difficult it was for the pilots, but they determined to do it for their country.

After watching the program, I was fulfilled with appreciation of being healthy and who I am. Normally when people become busy, they tend to forget appreciating the simple things in life. Moreover, this program depicts the tragedies of war. A war which the Japanese learned to never repeat again and one that should never be forgotten.

Mr. Kazuki Narita, producer of this program, said, “I am delightful to receive such a prestigious award. Through this award, I wish many people in the world would never forget the tragedies of war.” I think his strong wish is reflected in the program.

Congratulations, Mr. Narita and Mr. Tatematsu!

Coco xoxo
