They have been accused of a sluggish response to last nights riots, standing back and watching looters destroy shops and taking a softly-softly approach.

But today, when the Metropolitan Police had a chance to identify scores - if not hundreds - of thugs and looters, they released just 12 grainy CCTV photographs of people 'we will be speaking to'.

As scenes of wanton violence and looting shocked the world, viewers should at least have been comforted by the fact that so many of the rioters had failed to conceal their identity and would swiftly be reported to officers

In addition to the dozen pictures released by the Met, Mail Online has printed a further 30 images below.

Pictured here are just some of the youths suspected of plundering hundreds of businesses damaged in riots across London.

The rogues gallery of pictures from photographers brave enough to put themselves in the middle of the chaos will help to bring offenders to justice.

One image shows a teenage girl carrying clothes over one arm and, once her hands are full, even draping a jacket over her head.

And here are plenty more suspects we've found...

Another shows a man inspecting a brand new pair of jeans which still have the tag on them.

And from one shop a young girl runs from the the shattered entrance carrying stolen fizzy drinks and bags of crisps.

One child even carries a shopping basket full of groceries on the handlebars of his push bike.

The Metropolitan Police said that their priority is to bring to justice those who have committed violent and criminal acts.

Operation Commander Simon Foy said: 'Operation Withern is continuing apace. As well as the many arrests and charges the team is working hard to identify suspects.

'Those who have or intend to go out and commit violent, criminal acts should be warned. We will have photographs and evidence that we will use to identify you and bring you to justice.

'Today we are releasing the first of many, many images of people we will be speaking to in connection with the scenes of violence.

'We will not tolerate the violence that has been seen in parts of London.'

The Met have released their own pictures of rioters from the disturbance. They show thugs in Birmingham trying to break into a jewellers.

A number of young women are also seen emerging from a Richer Sounds electronics store in Croydon. More are seen entering a PC store.

The looters who were caught on cameras are just a handful of the thousands of people believed to have been involved in public disorder since riots began in Tottenham on Saturday night.

The unrest has spread to dozens of Londons of towns with businesses being attacked, buildings set fire and shops looted.

More than 450 people are so far understood to have been arrested, although that number could increase in the coming days.

Police have appealed for anybody with information that could identify the looters and rioters to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

looking at their faces is this England? Unfortunately it seems to be Imported English people. Settlers who we have embraced onto our shores and given them a helping hand. They have had numerous children. We have paid for all this in taxes and this is the resulting pay out. Rioting, Thuggery, Stealing, Property Damage, Arson Yes let's stop their benefits and why not deport them and their families back to the point of origin. Who cares about their Human Rights.

Stop the excuses for these criminals and their behaviour, try them and imprison them for a very long time. Mark Duggan was a criminal as well, were the Police supposed to just let him carry on? He carried a gun. If you live by the gun you die by the gun. Beating up a 67 year-old man who is now fighting for his life in hospital for remonstrating with you, what weak characters you must be. Attacking elderly people, what next killing women, babies and children?Burning them out of their homes? You are apologies for human-beings and have no place in our Society. Entering elderly people's homes at night whilst they are in bed and frightening them and then taking their property, if that was your Mother or Grandmother, Father or Grandfather what would you do to the person who did that? You wouldn't stand for it and would be outraged. Turn the tables and put yourselves in our place and grow-up!!! Stop whinging and get over your sob-stories we are not interested and have no sympathy at all

Andrew, London, 09/8/2011 16:03 - .......... I am a Londoner myself and condemn all this however Britian is bound to get this after invading other countries.. Im not one to believe in Karma but in this instance it makes sense. Just "Sigh" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No, you're NOT a Londoner and I doubt very much if you're British!! 'Andrew', I feel sure, is just an alias. As for the ones involved in the looting and terrorising (yes, terrorising) the law should come down HEAVY and be seen to do so! In my world, anyone who could be thrown out of the country would be; the rest would have their benefits stopped forthwith FOREVER and ALL OF THEM would be sterilised. But, with their human rights being more important than the poor victims, we shall see! I WATCH WITH INTEREST HOW THE GOVERNMENT DEALS WITH THIS. Oh and by the way 'Andrew', learn to spell and punctuate or you'll NEVER get a job!

Oh dear. They're just kids! God has nothing to do with a kid's decision to chuck a brick through a window and nick as many £3 tshirts as their grubby mitts can hold and look pleased with themsleves. Karma!? Yeah, it happens to us all. You lot are on a one way ticket to loserville. You pointless bunch of bitter, bored, useless, feckless, nobodys. Enjoy your 'fame' it will be shortlived, if you were my teen kid you genuinely wouldn't be able to sit down for a week!! And you'd be grounded for life. (FYI everyone else hates you right now)

"I wouldn't report them if i did know them. - Dave23, Bromley, 09/8/2011 15:42"...Well, how would you would feel if these people broke in to your apartment, stole everything and then burn the place? Especially when people would protect them. What they did has no excuse. Thieves are thieves and there is no excuse burning down buildings and looting.
