Yes, very.
In steel and overall design.
It has two major stress risers where the blade meets the guard that has been known to cause breakage.
If you cannot afford a busse I recomend you get a Scrap Yard SOD while you can.
Scrap Yard does tangs right and are made of Sr-77, a S-7 variant.
S-7 is known to be one of the toughest steels out there.

its a decent knife but you can't really compare the two. Cold steel makes a few decent products (and a lot of mediocre ones) but they are not on the same level as Busse. the Trailmaster is a good knife and will serve you well, but a Busse is a work of art that works, beautiful in its simplicity and as close to indestructible as you'll find in this world.Originally Posted by gamma_nyc
Neither of those knives are full tang. However, I would say that any problem with the CS would likely be a heat treat issue because that tang is PLENTY big enough for that knife. I don't harden my blades at the ricasso/tang junction. Now I would prefer handle material with a little more structural integrity, but that's just me

What do you guys think of the Bark River bowie designs, like the Bravo 1?
How about the Crowell Barker competition bowie?
The Crowell/Barker Competition is not really a bowie, but more a chopper with a drop point blade shape. That said, it is an excellent knife for the price. Don't have a Bark River, but the Rogue Bowie is one of the best looking bowies I've seen! It is done in the Natchez style. Check it out at www.knivesshipfree.com
i have a recon scout (also have an SOD ordered). and all i can say is that must have been a knife with a heat treat issue (like JDM said).because ive beem beating on mine for years with absolutly no issues. and while it may not be in the same league as the busse or scrap yard(which i cant wait ti get). it is a very nice knife for the money spent. like i said mine was my older brothers so it must be all off 12 years old and severly beat on.unless you use it as a brick hammer it should last as long as any knife made regardless of price.
Sorry to stray this a little but how are scrap yard knives? Are they pretty good quality compared to busse's? I know they're much cheaper and all...
scrapyard and busse are all the same family. scrapyard are probably just as strong(some say stronger). just plain jane versions. no fancy handles or blade shapes or finishes.
Yes they are a lot cheaper though. I guess it's because they are scraps from the other busse's.
