Tigers Face Extinction: Poaching, massive decline in habitat to blame
Wild tigers could become extinct in 12 years if more action isn’t taken,
according to global wildlife experts. The World Wildlife Fund says only
about 3,200 tigers remain in the wild, down from an estimated 100,000 a
century ago.
DiCaprio Urges Apple to Aid Wild Tigers
On Wednesday, I wondered why I had a new burst of followers on
Twitter. Then I noticed that Leonardo DiCaprio had re-tweeted my
recent suggestion that Apple, which has long named its Macintosh
operating systems for the tiger and other wild cats, help conserve
the world’s last few dozen havens for wild tigers.
Putin Calls Meeting on Tiger Threats
Ministers from several countries gathered Sunday in St. Petersburg
at the invitation of Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin of Russia to
begin a five-day meeting with the goal of protecting tigers. Only a
little more than 3,000 are estimated to be living outside captivity.
The Leonardo Dicaprio Fund At CCF Commits $1 Million to WWF TO Save Tigers Now
As world leaders gather for a historic summit to save tigers from
extinction, Leonardo DiCaprio today committed $1 million to World
Wildlife Fund for urgent tiger conservation efforts through his Fund at
the California Community Foundation. DiCaprio will also attend this
week’s summit.
