A-6E Intruder

Revell Monogram 1/48th scale

Intruder is my best favorite of military aircrafts.
I had a desire that build Intruder in 1/48 scale. but, my pardoned situation was only Fujimi's 1/48 kit ( actual scale is 1/50) exist.
I have been discouraged for long-years till Revell/Monogram release the Intruder's kit. I was very glad It is released and constructed it soon.
This photo is finished model's at that time.





This kit have few problem but they are also found in other kits. Those are never peculiar to this kit's. The following is seen mistakes or problems in this kit.

• Wing's problem.
  Rear edge and tip are very thick.
  The wing's parts will be the metal-wing because Wingfold-Cover and outside pylon shape are different as the Boeing-Wing's, but if you make her as early type then you have to repair wingtip's style to old type which has no formation light.
• Left and Right Engine rear section's size(width) is different.
  Portside's is wide a little.
  Therefore, I met trouble when putting the own made nozzle on that place but I had nothing to do except to ignore this little fault.
• Inside wing fences must exist more near fuselage.
  
  Kit's position is early A-(or other)type's.
  You have to move wing-fence about 9/32 inches (about 7 mm) near side of fuselage, if you build a latest version of E-type or Boeing's wing version.
  This mistake is not only Revell's kit, many kits and drawings has same mistake except Fujimi's 1/72 kit.

  That's all which were notable.




Tried detailing.
Other modified points are wingtip plain shape only. Appended seat belts by thin tape, lighting controls on canopy center framing (Verlinden's grade-up-parts set is not released yet at that time ), and replaced exhaust nozzle by self made parts from aluminum pipe.

Wing fence's problem is easy to repair. I replaced them with new self made wing-fences. ( see photo... )

Sanded AFT air inlet to slenderize.

Air-exhaust's molding is pretty poor which is on port side rear fuselage. Therefore I did make a hole to a correct place and append a slanting cut pipe to inside.(This work is not necessary to build former type from CAINS.)
Kit's Chaff/Flare dispenser is molded in embossed dots only. I expected to lose it in sanding. It was replaced to surplus parts which were included in Hasegawa 1/48 F-14 Kit.

This sample's type was early TRAM of E which have not TRAM turret. However, beacon light and TACAN antenna are not applied to nose gear door. They were moved to bottom of fuselage.


I changed all rise-panel-lines to engraved-panel-lines by acrylic cutter. It was a tedious and quite a time-consuming task, but I know that unattended lost panel lines make an unfortunate thing. Therefore, I perform always this task except when I build a kit which have engraved panel lines.






Finish
Actually this kit is very nice. It can be constructed in two color schemes. Of course, chose a CAG of VF-196's marking which is high-visibility-scheme. ( You may think "Why did not choose a marking from Super-Scale-Decal?". reason is easy, I wanted to finish that "CAG" version. Thereto, kit's decal is not bad.) I did write a lettering "500NK" on the starboard wing which was omitted at kit's decal.
I used twelve Mk81-SnakeEyes and eight Rockeyes which were included in the kit. But, If Revell provided Mk82-SnakeEyes I was more happy. Because, Mk81-SnakeEyes is rare ( I never say "It's impossible."... ).
