Shaking Judy
Shaking Judy is a Montreal-based band that has been steadily evolving over the past 6 years. Their sound stems from a variety of influences, from blues to rock to metal; every show they play is brimming with energy. The band released its first EP, Songs for Apollo, in 2006. The release of the album was followed by a $20,000 VideoFact grant to shoot a video for the song “On the Run” (video), helped solidify a devoted fan base. Shaking Judy is currently recording demos for their first full-length album. Demos Volume 1 was released in 2009, and Demos Volume 2 will be released in July, 2011. The full-length album will be recorded and released in Summer 2011. Fans should expect a heavier, more ambitious record, followed by a summer tour of Quebec and Ontario.
Melina Soochan
Melina is a soulful and sophisticated singer/songwriter and pianist from Montreal, whose style is a unique blend of pop, indie, jazz and blues. In 2009, she released a 6-song EP City of Love, and independently produced 3 music videos: “X-Ray Eyes” (currently on rotation on Bravo! and CJNT), “City of Love” (the title track of her EP), and more recently “The Mama Song,” as promo for her upcoming album “Hold On,” set for a summer 2011 release. Melina is also an avid entrepreneur, having founded the Acoustic Nights Montreal singer-songwriter series, organizing local events such as live music showcases and teen songwriting competitions, in an effort to support local music and art.
Alex Robshaw
Alex Robshaw is a writer, a composer, and a performer—and has been for a long time. She writes, plays and performs stories. Stories are always about lives, no matter which. She is a story, and so are you. Alex Robshaw believes in Evolution. She has gone beyond anything that could ever have been done. She has pushed, twisted and slain the boundaries of creative performance, bringing musical expression to another pedestal.
Steve Cohen
Steve Cohen teaches physics at Vanier College, but has always had a passion for music. As a singer and guitarist, he plays a unique style of acoustic pop, folk, and rock. He performed an upbeat set of covers at the Benefit Concert to Remember (BC2R) in 2009, which raised funds for Alzheimer’s research.
