Picking Up the Pieces: Art for Japan
On 11 March 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck the north east coast of Japan causing a massive tsunami that devastated the lives of thousands. With total damages exceeding two-hundred-and-fifty billion dollars, the Japanese government is still struggling to rebuild devastated towns while the Japanese people continue to rebuild their lives, piece by piece.
These shocking events have shaken us all. With thousands dead and missing it is hard to imagine how Japan will recover from the chaos. Many of us have wondered what we can do to make a difference.
What started as a one-man benefit show has blossomed into a large-scale collaboration of concerned artists from across disciplines who have united with members of Montréal’s Japanese community in a joint effort to assist Japan in this time of need. On 14 May 2011, come join them at Off Interarts, 5143 St-Laurent, in their attempt to raise a target goal of twenty-thousand dollars.
