Our thoughts and prayers go out for everyone that got affected by the devastating disasters and we sincerely hope for Japan's fast recovery.

Since we started testing KeyHoleTV, the user number have increased dramatically. Right after the initial earthquake, the number of users increased beyond the current threshold, which caused a situation where users experienced image and sound disruptions and as well as problems logging in to the system. This problem got accentuated when users began accumulating in few stations. Since March 11th, the numbers of inquiries we receive regarding improvement on image and sound qualities have increased dramatically.

Currently, our KeyHole system is operating only on one server, which sets a limitation on the number of users. When the number of users reaches the server's threshold, there will be packet losses. Packet losses will cause image disruptions and users will be more likely to experience sound interruptions. To solve these problems, it will be necessary to increase the number of servers and develop a new encoder.

Developing a new encoder and increasing number of servers will require time, so we released a new version of KeyHoleTV(Windows 3.17, Linux 1.26 and Mac 1.36) with improved solution against packet loss  on March 30th(JST). The new version decreases noise occurrence caused by packet loss and delay caused by video packet loss.

There are few reasons why KeyHoleTV experiences video delay. When video packet loss occurs, KeyHoleTV requests resending video packets once. When many video packet losses occur, KeyHole server automatically pauses video packet transmission until the next base frame. Also, KeyHoleTV is required to stand by for few moments in order to process resending request. This stand by time results in video delay.
