Jong-Shin Kim

Governing Board Chairman

Mr. Kim received a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University (1972) and a Master’s Degree in business administration from Ajou University (2008). He was also the recipient of a Doctor Honoris Causa from Soong Sil University in 2008.

Mr. Kim began his career at Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 1972 and became a Chief Manager of KEPCO’s Paris Office in 1987, a Director General of the Overseas Project Department and Power Generation Department in 1997 and 1998 respectively, and a Site Vice President of Kori Nuclear Power Plants in 1999. In 2001, KHNP was separated from KEPCO and held all the country’s nuclear and hydro assets (KHNP). Following this restructuring, he became a Senior Vice President of KHNP.

In 2004, he was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Korea Western Power Co. (a subsidiary of KEPCO). In 2007, he returned to KHNP as President and CEO to focus on the building of a nuclear safety culture as a priority and fostering human resources within Asia and other countries requiring nuclear power plants. With 35 years of experience in nuclear power generation, he has played a major role in the complete history of South Korea’s nuclear power development.

In 2008, Mr. Kim was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour for his outstanding contribution to nuclear industry cooperation between South Korea and France. He received a Distinguished Service Award from the Project Management Institute in 2005. He also serves as Chairman of the Korean Society of Pressure Vessel and Piping, Vice-Chairman of the Korea Standards Association and is a Senior Advisor to the Korean Society for Quality Management.

Harunobu Shirayanagi

Regional Director

Mr. Shirayanagi began his career at the Tokyo Electric Power Company in 1981 and mostly engaged in the technical fields of BWR fuel bundle design, core fuel management and nuclear safety design.

Before joining WANO, he completed a variety of assignments at the Corporate Office as well as the Fukushima-Daiichi NPS, Fukushima-Daini NPS, Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS and one thermal power station. He is a former Deputy Site Manager of Fukushima-Daiichi NPS.
