Xbox 360 console banned?

ok so I recently bought a 360 from gamestop, I started connecting to xbox live then it says xbox console is banned and there didn't list reason.
Why would they ban even tho I'm like using xbox live for my first time?

Return it. The console ID was banned by Microsoft due to the previous owner. You will not be able to access XBL on it. Gamestop has a 30 day return policy on all used consoles. Tell them it was banned and get a different one.

Ok, I'll return the console tomorrow.
I'll rather get the brand new xbox 360 slim, it's best in that way.

    then you probably bought a used one i think u can solve you problem by reseting the hard-drive to factory conditions
    1. Start it without a disc in the tray.
    2. In the System section of the Dashboard, select Memory, then go to Storage Devices.
    3. In the Storage Devices, select Hard Drive, then press Y to view the Device Options.
    4. In the Device Options, select Format. When it asks you do you want to continue, select Yes.

    You bought it from game stop meaning it was used previously? Might have something to do with the hard drive being banned previously by earlier owner perhaps. I was under the impression that the could only ban your XBOX LIVE account. Also is this the first time you've made a "live" account? or was it an existing account?

    Return it to gamestop, buy the new slim this thanksgiving blackfriday at target for $150.
