BackupURL Takes Snapshots Of Web Pages

Web page archiving site BackupURL takes point-in-time snapshots of web pages on demand—useful for capturing and sharing fast-changing web pages. To create a snapshot, simply go to BackupURL, paste in the link to the page, and click the Backup button to generate the cached copy, which is accessible from an already-shortened URL. The web application is very simple, and the lack of information makes it questionable for long-term archiving, but it could be very useful for saving a quick copy of a constantly changing news site for sharing with others. We were within a half a mile of a university campus and hardly ever got students looking for technical references. I was careful to say “technical” as texts for arts references tend to stay useful for decades.

I’m guessing that ebook readers will kill the technical reference deadtree editions sooner rather than later. It makes much more sense when an iPad weighs a fraction of just one big old textbook and the reference can be updated, hyperlinked and embedded with multimedia didactive aids.

It’s a pity that it’s gone as it was simple enough for technical duffers like my aunts and uncles to use. They still have no clue how to extract photos and video from their phones – that stuff just stays until they lose the phone.

I am new to linux and after reading your obviously well researched article it only confirms my impressions of the operating system. Unfortunately until Linux writers address the problem of installation and make it seamless for the user, I am sorry to say Windows will only continue to power on. Median? Hell no! Had nothing but problems with a warranty return a few years back on a laptop. They couldn’t even return the correct AC adaptor.

I’ll stick to Officeworks for my portable drives. If anything goes wrong it’s a simple matter of swap-and-go for a HDD warranty issue.
