The Hakurei Shrine at night

本当の満月が幻想郷に戻ってきた。
今までの月は、まるで張子のおもちゃであったかの様に、
今夜の月は強く妖しく輝いている。

The true full moon had returned to Gensokyo.
The previous moon was just a papier-mache toy.
But in contrast, tonight's moon was brightly shining.

月本来の力は、陽の光に浄化された幻想郷の幻想分を
再び高めていくだろう。
そんな幻想郷らしい満月の夜の元で行われる事といえば……

The moon's true power is that it boosts the purification rate of
the sunlight... to dispel the illusions of Gensokyo.
It's so like Gensokyo for this to happen on the night of a full moon...

今日もお月見よ～。

多くの妖怪達は本来の力を取り戻し、次第に幻想郷自体の力も
元に戻っていた。
これは、幻想郷の力の均衡が元に戻っていったともいえる。

It's a night where the moon's power gets stronger.
As soon as the youkai's true power returned, Gensokyo's
strength came back.
This is the equilibrium of Gensokyo's power.

人間は常に妖怪の食料であり、妖怪は常に人間に退治される
ものでなければならない。
月の力一つ狂えば、このバランスも崩れてしまうのである。
今回の事で、霊夢はそう強く感じたのだ。

Humans are always food for youkai.
And humans exterminate youkai so they won't be eaten.
If the moon's power is ever in disorder, this balance will shatter.
Reimu felt that this incident was a threat in that way.

地上の外からやってきた民を、人妖の位置につかせることで、
幻想郷は再びバランスを取り始めた。

The bamboo forest of Eientei.

成長の早い竹は竹林そのものの形を変える。
よほど慣れた者でも道に迷ってしまうだろう。
そんな竹林の奥深く、月の光に輝く美しき屋敷があった。

Two figures could be seen passing through the undergrowth.
They were almost as experienced as they were lost.
Past the bamboo maze, they stumbled upon a clearing,
wherein the moonlight shone down on a beautiful old estate.

古くからあり、こんなに大きい屋敷なのに、幻想郷に住む者には
その存在を知られていなかったのだ。
いや、見つけた者を催眠術で操り、幻だと思わせたのかもしれない

The mansion looked older than time itself,
as if not a soul in Gensokyo had ever called it home.
Perhaps it was merely an illusionary deception?

古屋敷をあさるのは楽しいと思わないか？

Finding this old place was pretty fun, don'tcha think?

欠けた月は、実は本物の月ではなかったのだ。
真実の満月は幻想郷を強く妖しく照らし、今は幻想郷本来の
力が戻ってきているようだった。

In fact, the weak moon wasn't the real one.
Now, the true full moon shines brightly upon Gensokyo,
bewitchingly restoring the land's power.

月の民から身を隠していた輝夜達は、幻想郷は結界で守られていて
月の追手がここまで入って来れないという事を知って、本当の満月
を戻したのである。

Kaguya and her entourage decided to stay in Gensokyo.
Within its protective barrier,
they were safe from any Lunarians pursuing her.
And with no need for a fake moon, the true moon was returned.

幻想郷では宇宙から来た人を外の人とは呼ばない。
それは幻想の人なのだ。輝夜達はすぐに幻想郷に馴染むだろう。

Nighttime at the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

幻想郷に本当の満月が戻ってきた。
今までの月は張子のおもちゃに見えるような輝きだった。

The real moon had at last returned to Gensokyo.
As it turned out, the fake moon had been nothing more than a paper toy,
while the real moon had been obscured by the distortion of madness

だが、本当の満月は狂気を映し出す。
本来、狂気は人間の目には殆ど見えないのだが、月の偏光は狂気の
波長だけで出来ていて雑波長が少なく、時にその純粋な狂気が人間
にも見えてしまう事もある。

Naturally, the human eye could not see past such an illusion
The light reflected from the moon had been polarized, it's wave-length
altered to the point that it was no longer in the visible spectrum.
After time, though, this would drive those humans affected by it insane.

夜しかお化けが見えないと言われたのはその為である。
感受性の高い人間はその狂気に当てられ、そして狂うだろう。
この狂気を人間に翻訳でき、そして調節できる者が住む処、
それが幻想郷である。

The invisible and silent nocturnal creatures were at an advantage.
Highly sensitive humans were affected worst of all, and went mad.
To get to the root of the madness, the person who controlled it
would have to be found, somewhere in Gensokyo...

狂気の月の光が静かに幻想郷を照らす。
湖の白は黒より黒く、森の緑は闇より暗く。
ただ屋敷のみが、本来の赤より紅く輝いていた。

The tranquil light of the full moon shone down on Gensokyo.
The black lake shone white in the moonlight, while the forest
formed a wreath of darkness around it.
The light from the lake sprayed across the ruby-tinted Scarlet Mansion.

月からのお迎えですって。
お迎えが必要なくらいの人なら、最初から追放しなきゃ
いいのにねぇ。

Going to the moon...
Is this meeting even necessary?
As a matter of fact, weren't they exiled?

でも何百年も帰りたくない、って言うって事は、
月の都はそんなに居心地の悪い処なの？
それとも、幻想郷が居心地がいい？

Ah, but after being away from home for centuries,

Whatever was in vogue in the capital of the Moon has long gone
out of style by now.
And do you even think they like Gensokyo's trends?

活気に溢れた冥界は、今にも人が生き返りそうな程賑わっていた。
そう、幻想郷に本物の月が戻ってきたのだ。
その力は今までの死んだ張子の月と段違いである。

The moon's power has reached even the Netherworld.
Even now, the overflowing jubilation in the Netherworld resembles
that of the living humans.
Indeed, the real moon has returned to Gensokyo.
Its power is even remarkably different than the supposedly dead
papier-mache moon's.

今までの月は何だったのかというと……、
それは夜空に映る、大昔の月の記憶の映像だったのだ。
幽々子は、その月を懐かしく思うと同時に、
薄っぺらさも感じていた。

The moon until now has been - ah, how shall I say it - vulgar somehow...
The images of memories about the moon from long ago are reflected
in the night sky.

Thus, they made their way toward the Hakurei shrine.
