World Figure Skating Championships 2011

The international union of skaters (ISU, it is based in 1892) every year holds the World figure skating championship. This is the second for the importance (after the Olympic games) competition of the best figure skaters of the world. The World championship is considered the most prestigious action among other tournaments in the given sport.

From history of the World figure skating championship

The history of world championships on figure skating totals 105 years. The first championship was in 1996 in Russia, Petersburg. In that significant competition participated only four sportsmen. German Hilbert Fuks became the first world champion.

Only since 28 years after that events could participate in competitions officially women. The first world champion became the Herme-plank-sabot from Austria in 1924.

From the beginning of the existence the World championships weren't spent only during the first and second world wars. Besides, the World championship of 1961 has been excellent because of tragical  destruction of a command from the USA in an air crash.

Today, after decades, shape of this sports meet has significantly changed. The championships became much more impressive. On competitions come about two hundred sportsmen from tens states.

Much more difficult become the programs and the technical elements which are carried out by figure skaters. The first threefold jump has been fixed in 1952 in the championship in Edmonton. At modern competitions already all women, as a rule, carry out this element in any program.

Rules of carrying out of tournament

Each national organization entering into the international union of skaters, has the right to expose sportsmen on the World championship: two pairs for pair competitions (pair figure skating and sports dances) and two person for single competitions (man's and female). By results of performances in the previous championship to some countries is given the right to expose two or three sportsmen (steams) on each kind of competition.

Rules and system of estimations of performances in figure skating periodically change. Since 2010 the requirement on carrying out of qualifying arrivals has partially renewed. The quantity of the participants getting to the basic competitions without qualification, directly depends on success of the country in the previous World championship.

Actually, tournament, consists of such stages:

- Single skating (men and women) — the short program and free skating for 24 best participants.

- Pair figure skating — the short program and free skating for 20 best pairs.

- Sports dances — obligatory dance, original dance for 30 best and a final stage — free skating for 24-four best pairs.

System of an estimation of performances

On change to the six-mark system existing since 1901, in 2005 the new judicial system of the marks has come. Now instead of two general estimations judges expose points for each separate element, and also for five components of skating. The total result turns out by summation of all estimations and substraction penal points.

The World figure skating championship 2011 in Moscow

This year Moscow accepts the unplanned World championship for itself on figure skating. Action should pass in Tokyo from March, 21 till March, 27th, but in connection with the disasters which have comprehended Japan has been transferred for later term, and then and has at all replaced a venue.

Now the capital quickly prepares for carrying out of the big sports forum which will pass from April, 24th till May, 1st in new ice palace "Megasport". On Tuesday of 25th competitions will begin with a qualifying stage in man's single skating. Will finish event dancing steams on 30th of April demonstration of free skating. Demonstration performances of the best figure skaters will be spent on May, 1st. The beginning at 14.00.

Russia has such quotas in this championship: 3 sports pairs, 2 dancing pairs, 2 women, 1 man.
