David Smith Weight Loss Story
David Smith was 630 pounds in 2003 and decided to change his life by going through only carb cycling for weight loss. Now 2007, he weighs at a stunning 229 pounds, losing 401 pounds but still has excess skin on his body. He underwent several surgeries to remove the excess skin and after that he looks just like any other normal guy. Definitely an inspiration for a lot of the unhappy souls out there.

What a beautiful connection between two people! I’m sure that each taught the other valuable lessons. I’m so proud of them…and of course you know that this was NOT just a calorie burning excercise, but a spiritual one: being able to look at ones life clearly. This story brought me to tears of joy. When you lay down at night in the comfort of your pellow and look up at darkness, you alone are with your thoughts….the closest one to you has their own. That is just the way it is. How would you describe yourself? What do you want to change? Thanks David! Sincerely, Tim Fox

I saw a new program on him on youtube and his trainer gave a website name but when i typed it in nothing came up. I need to know the diet program that they put him on bc he said that he did only like 3 days of exercise a week and that it was mainly the diet that contributed to his weight loss. How can i find the diet plan. If someone knows please e-mail me at greenlanterntexas@yahoo.com.
Thanks
Clint
January 19th, 2008 at 5:26 am
Clint, what he did was called carb-cycling but any controlled carbohydrate plan will do it. The media and the medical establishment are so hellbent on low-fat and low-calorie eating but they don’t work for most people–even if you lose weight, you’re starving the whole time. It’s not hard to believe weight loss can come from dieting because excess weight is about fat storage to begin with, which is about the kinds of calories you consume and in which proportions, not about your fitness level. I recently read about a 200+ pound woman who is a triathlete, for instance.

are you kidding me with this huge round of applause for this little turd? The only people entitled enough to get that friggen disgustingly and inexplicably huge are the ones who would be able to have their mommies and daddies pay probably $50,000 to have his mongoloid skin – flaps removed! You aren’t a triumph by correcting the mistakes of being a disgusting incapacitated loser in the first place. Better to have shot you in your cholesterol laden belly than to have used so many resources to make you look “normal”. Hope your girlfriend enjoys licking your scars, frigging waste of carbon!

mike shanahan, you are an a$$hole. Some messed up things happened to David when he was a kid and he used food as a comfort. He had some emotional problems and his weight got out of hand because the more people would make fun of him and abuse him for being fat, the more he would eat to comfort himself. The reason he deserves praise is because even after getting that out of hand, he actually lost all that weight with diet and exercise alone. Do you know how hard that is? And as for your mommie and daddy theory, his mom is dead- on her deathbed she begged him to lose the weight. I’m not sure if his dad is in the picture. Doctors donated the surgeries because they were so impressed by David’s accopmplishments.
David, If you ever are in the Philly area and want to go on a date, let me know!
Liz
January 31st, 2008 at 4:45 pm
yeah mike shanahan, don’t be a jerk.
there is a disorder called BED. an eating disorder like anorexia/bulemia, except the opposite. or even like drugs and smoking…eating can become an addiction for some people, and its not as easy as “normal” people think to regain control
im not saying that david had BED…i dont know much of his story
but my point is, just because someone is obese doesn’t mean they gladly and threw themselves in that direction.
if there’s psychological issues involved, it’s NOT as easy as saying “oh man, im gaining a lot of weight. im going to stop” and then stopping.

He has had the skin removed. Dr Mehdi Mazaheri did it for him. He specializes in skin removal for the massive weight loss patient. David look awesome now and you can tell that he has gained a lot of confidence as well!! I’m truly proud of him and all the doctors that donated their services to help him feel human again.

God Bless You David! My 12 year old is chunky, and often made fun of or bullied. We have talked about these issues and have even talked to counselors at school. It’s been really tough for her( as I’m sure it was for you) trying to fit in at school when the other kids are constantly harrassing her. I tell her that she is a beautiful and worthwhile human being,
she’s funny and creative, and that those kids are missing out on a great friend. I encourage all parents to teach their kids (especially middle schoolers) to respect other people. Words hurt and they damage our self esteem. Thank you, David, for sharing your story. God Bless.

Hi David, my name is Jeff. I am 18 years old, 6′ and weigh 340 lbs. I am a gamer and usually play around 10 hours a day with a 40 hour week job, eat lots of junk food, and it doesnt help that I work at mcdonald’s. Inspired by your story, Yesterday I decided to put away the video games for the next four months and change my eating habits drastically. I used to drink 1+ Litres of pop a day. I have now been caffeine free for a week. When I do eat at work, i now substitute the fries for a side salad. The drink, a water. And I usually go for a healthier meal besides a double cheeseburger. I am doing alot more to help out around the house such as using a push mower for the lawn, and scrubbing the floors in circular patterns instead of using a mop. I try to do cycling for 1 hour a day and am now walking everywhere instead of taking a taxi.
I just want to say thanks for all the inspiration you have given me and I look forward to joining you in the winners circle.

I don’t understand how anyone could say anything negative about you, I think they must be very shallow minded people who have never truly experienced a problem in their life – yet.
You honestly look absolutely gorgeous – and the transformation is truly amazing.
We all go through ups and downs in life, and you dragged yourself out of the dark place you were in…. and good on you for doing that.
Anyone who says otherwise I truly believe is jealous of your accomplishments, and the way you now look…. which is gorgeous : )

Dude… This past five weeks I’ve finally got off my 18 year old 250 pound ass and started going to the gym intensively. I lost a decent amount of weight already and gained alot of muscle. After seeing this, you have inspired me more than I could imagine. I know how it is to be teased and made fun of, and all it does is make you want to eat. Depression kills any hopes of losing weight. But if anything, I can tell you this. All it takes is a motivating friend or friends to help you push yourself, and I’m sure you know this. I will work out everyday remembering this story, and regardless of whether or not you see this, just know you will always be my inspiration.

I just want to cry when I see this. I have managed to lose just 70 pounds about 5 years ago, and the excess skin that I have gets in the way of wearing certain things and I look a non-stop 5 months prego, but I see this and it makes me even more thankful that I am not alone!
Inspiring indeed!
Would love to have your Doctor’s information for help in the near future! CONGRATS!
I would love to know how you did it exactly!

What an amazing story, David you have shown the world that with strength of mind and the power of dreams that discipline and vision can pay off. you are an inspiration!!
August 16th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Hmm, this makes me think that this diet makes you lose too much too quickly if the body cant bounce back enough to at least shrink some of the skin as well. Seems unsafe to try this diet program.

Not only did I just read though this article and looked through the pictures, but I also went to the Stax System website. I have had problems with my weight all of my life and have tried countless “gimmick” diets as well as specialized weight-loss groups to aid me in getting to my goal weight. Unfortuantely they never worked to my expectations. If David can loose 400+lbs in 2 years, then I believe it is possible for any one of us do the same if we have the will and drive to do it like he did. I am inspired by his story and it nearly brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing this story with all of us. Truly remarkable.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Wow David! What an amazing inspiration and motivation you are! I’ve seen so many people say they’re going to lose weight and falter during the process because it seems too hard or takes too long. If they could just see how possible it is to shape themselves physically and mentally to become something more and better. I salute you dude!
November 26th, 2008 at 10:38 am
David I commend u for what u did, congratulations. I been there got the T-shirt for it. Had all the riducule from the thin women poking remarks about how fat they are and how they need to go on diet always in front of me and saying how awful a fat person looks. I know exactly how it feels and the wonderful feeling when those kilos just start dropping off. I always was a size 36 weighing 75kg but due to many operations and hormone treatments went to size 54 and 135kg. Got very ill had 2 huge operations started losing weight thru not being able to eat – developed pouches in my throat now only on liquids. Lost 54 kgs. Do I feel wonderful. Had tummy tuck still need arms and hips and upper legs excess skin to me removed. To all the people out there who are quick to pass remarks at “fat: people. What goes around comes around maybe in not the same way but you will get your day MAKE NO MISTAKE FOR GOD DOES NOT SLEEP — AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL DONE DAVID AND MAY U FIND THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE WHICH SO SO MUCH DESERVE AS U ARE A GOOD LOOKING GUY.

Well, David – your effort has inspired me to do something similar. At nearly 450lbs (203Kgs) I was really missing out on so much of life, especially with my 7 year old son. Now, 11 months later I have lost over 160lbs (73Kgs) and have about 55-66lbs (25-30Kgs) to go to reach my goal weight of 220Lbs (100Kgs). Thanks, David. You are an inspiration to us all…

Mike Shanahan, shame on you! I don’t have to see you to know that you are an ugly, ugly human being (and I happen to be thin and attractive) so I’m not saying this because I understand David’s struggle. I don’t understand his struggle, but I have compassion. Have you ever heard of it? Maybe you lack love in your own life so you don’t compassion. Instead of lashing out with all the nastiness inside you, why don’t you look at yourself. Why don’t you worry about fixing your own problems (maybe you could benefit from anger management) instead of focusing on putting others down. If you have children, do not pass on your self important, judgemental attitude to them. The world doesn’t need anymore poeple like you!!
David, keep your chin up. No one is perfect. I happen to be thin, but that doesn’t make me any better or worse than anyone else. We all have something to give and we can all learn from each other, as long and we are willing to share our story. Whatever our story or struggle we are all the same. We are all have strengths and weaknesses. Don’t get down on yourself if you make a mistake, just pick yourself up and move forward. Thank you for sharing your story! God bless you!
July 11th, 2009 at 11:30 am
I am apalled at the people that responded with negative comments about him before the weight loss and the excess skin but then commented how they would date him now. For those people, you DO NOT DESERVE to date him. I am sure he was a beautiful person BEFORE as well as after his surgery. It is no wonder people who are overweight have such little self esteem for themselves. I believe that people should be judged on what is on the inside because one day our looks will leave a lot to be desired and we will want to grow old with someone who is worth growing old with.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
David, don’t let any negative comment here bring you down- you did, and are doing, an amazing thing. It’s not about just losing the weight, it’s about triumph over all your demons. You are an inspiration to all because you pulled yourself out of the darkest place a human being can be. Whether you’re a man of faith or not (yet), God is with you. Continue to be positive for yourself, and for the many people to whom you are apparently giving hope and confidence! I’m sure you’ll find the right girl, too. Just watch out for those interested in you for the wrong reasons, now that you’re venturing into celebrity. I wish you the best of luck- salute!
July 11th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
He looks amazing, who cares about the excess skin? I lost a lot of weight too (through diet and exercise) and I have areas that could benefit from surgery to “tighten” them up. I’m just happy he was able to pull himself out of the funk he was in and realize that he had a life worth living. Hands down to you David, you are an inspiration to so many people. You and I are almost the same age – maybe we could share stories one day.
July 12th, 2009 at 1:54 am
Mike shanahan, you were probably one of the guys in school who used to physically and emotionally abuse him! I definitely hope get hit by a bus, barely survive, develop a severe eating disorder, and are lonely for the rest of your life because someone with your Disgusting outlook Deserves it. Rot in hell. I feel extreme saying it… but I really do hope you go through what he went through. You’re the biggest form of LOSER– one who hides behind the shadows of others, picking and tearing at them, so that coward in your mind can come out in an attempt to look like he’s on top of things… You have no idea who you are, what the point is in your life, and how many people in your life Genuinely like you (probably none, with your attitude, unless they’re psychologically screwed up a-holes like you). As a result of these things, you lash out to others cause you never grew out of your “bullying” stage in ujnior high. Now here you are, still making fun of someone who– Guess What? Did something about his problems. JEALOUSY is another problem of yours. You’d ruin a person’s life without pause if there was a chance he was better than you, because you don’t want others to see that loser that you know is the real you.
You know what? I take back what I said about hoping you go through what David did– and I apologize for it– because your SICKENING disease is Far more disgusting and miserable than any physical condition. Good luck finding anyone who could love you for you. I hope you get counseling and change yourself… I really do. I hope you become a better person– everyone should want the best for others. Good Luck With That.
NOW– that being said, everyone please forgive me for my horrible tirade and temper, but that man needs help. I hope David reads my post, because I really just wanted to tell him… Stay shy & wary of dating right now. I hope you’re still a virgin, in fact! You have the rest of your healthy life to find someone who Truly loves you, and I hope you do!! Just don’t let girls google-eyed by the media and publicity date you until this has all subdued– date around (LOTS!), find what you like and don’t like, find what kind of man you are dating-wise… and husband wise! And please, Please make sure she’s the RIGHT one before you sleep with her!!!!! I’m 21, generally considered quite attractive (or so I’ve been told by most), and– if I may be so bold– I make a Damn Good Girlfriend. My boyfriend has NO problems at all with my decision to REMAIN A VIRGIN
until we are married… He’s a good, Good man!! We will probably wait 2 more years to get married– whenever we get our degrees & careers settled– and we can handle that! The fact that I’ve waited for him to be my Only one, declaring that marriage & sex are a binding of the Body as well as everything else, means more to me & him than words can explain… I hope you do it! =) Either way, I’m proud of you & know you will be a great man!
God bless all of you, and have a great day! =)
This was written hastily, so please forgive any inarticulate mistakes!

Hi David! I am amazed at what you have done. I have to share my story with you, because I think we have a lot in common. I have lost over 200 lbs since starting in 2003 as well. I did it in much the same way you did. Through diet, exercise, and a lot of determination. I have been big all of my life, so didn’t date because I didn’t like myself, let alone expect someone else to like what they saw. Just this March, I had surgery to remove my excess skin! When I look at your photos I have many of the same scars you do. Under my arms and armpits, down my stomach and along my bikini line. I do believe you even had a drain hanging from one of your armpits in one of the pictues you have posted. Aren’t those so much fun! I came home with six of them after my surgery. I thought they would never stop draining. Like yourself, I am now ready to date and meet someone that I can share my life with. I would love to chat with you. I wish I new how to get in touch. I’ve been e-mailing TLC after watching your show to try and get in touch. Take care and keep up the good work. I know it is extrememly rewarding, but always continues to be a challenge. Best wishes!

Hi David—OMGosh, I was so moved by your complete story from beginning to end. You are truly a role model for all of us that are over weight. I myself need to loose 150-200 lbs. and just can not seem to get the motivation going. I would love to know how you started out with exercising–what actually did you start doing. I’ve tried some land exercises but my joints hurt so badly afterwards because of my arthritis and I have done some water aerobics, but again–getting that motivation seems to be the difficult part for me–just doing it. I went to the stax system web site but still need information on how to follow the diet without actually having to purchase the stax system. Anyone have any ideas please let me know. Again David, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story. BTW–what is your facebook address? God Bless You!!!

David your’e an incredible guy, with such a great soul. Youv’e been through so much, you are an hero for the people who are desesperately fighting for fitness.
My husband has more than a hundred pound to loose, and it is so hard on him, on me and on the family. We cannot do whatever we what, sit wherever we whan, or simply do normaly things like others cause they are not made fort fat person. He has problem with his health too, diatébic and high pressure, I am afraid for him, because he does not train, he is always too tired or too sick. And it’s true cause he works a lot. But just diet, it doesn’t work, he looses 2 or 3 pounds a month. I’m scare for his health.
I trully admire you and, last week we sat and watch your special show. I think you made a difference cause since that day, my men start training.
You are cute, you were before, you are intelligent even more today, and you are certainly the most loveble person. I hope you find love for what love is, not because you lost pounds, but because you are a great guy with great feelings.
If I may, please for those who make comments try to image what this guy been through and not just juge easyly without any feeling. He deserved our admiration.
(Sorry for the mistakes, I’m french and my english is so so.)

I was wondering – did they use the excess skin they removed on something good?
I mean hell, you could transplant almost 90% skin on some burn victim.
p.s. You look really good. I hope more people will get where you are

I caught some of your story on TLC. You have amazing will power. Also, I know you will never be full of yourself and have a huge ego so I just want you to know you are really cute! I rarely say that to people because I feel like they’ll let it get to their head, but you have such a nice sweet way about you that I know you’ll never be full of yourself. I’ve been working on eating right while in college and it’s challenging! You are really something!
I wish you luck and happiness on all your future endeavors. =]

I just saw your story on TV in Australia. Damn you are inspiring, if only more people could turn their lives around like you did.
Keep up the good work and good luck with the ladies. They would be crazy not to be with you.

Dude – just saw your story on TLC. Your story moved me to tears – and I absolutely never cry over anything I see on TV or in a movie. I have experienced the teasing and the self hatred from being overweight. I would have been your friend through all that – I know because I did have friends who were alot heavier than I. I don’t know what to add to all the positive comments people have sent your way – I just want you to know that you sent me a message – that there is nothing I cannot do! Dude – you are saving lives right now – please let me know what I can do to help! You are incredible – you will make a fantastic husband for a very lucky woman out there, and I know lives are being saved because you shared your story.
What you are doing is important – please keep doing what you are doing! And again, I want to help! Let me know what I can do.
