FORENSIC experts have used modern CSI methods to prove Dr Crippen did not murder his wife.

He was hanged more than 100 years ago, following one of Scotland Yard’s most celebrated investigations.

Now scientists believe their DNA tests show that the remains found at the American doctor’s home were those of a man, and not Crippen’s 35-year-old wife Cora.

They used similar techniques to the characters in hit Channel 5 drama CSI, or Crime Scene Investigation, who solve grisly murders through the physical evidence.

A chunk of flesh discovered in the cellar of Dr Crippen’s home in Holloway, north London, had a scar similar to one Cora had on her torso. After hearing that evidence, a jury took 27 minutes to convict Hawley Crippen of poisoning and dismembering his wife. He went to the gallows in 1910, still protesting his innocence.

Scientists at the University of Michigan have spent three years reviewing the evidence. “Based on genealogical and DNA research, the tissue used to convict Dr Crippen was not that of Cora,” said lead scientist David Foran who compared DNA from that flesh to samples from Cora’s living relatives. “Further DNA testing showed the tissue was male.”

Mr Foran has published his findings, co-authored by poisoning expert John Trestrail, in the respected Journal Of Forensic Science in America. He said his study proves Dr Crippen did not murder his wife. “All we can say scientifically is, the tissue did not come from Cora,” he added.

“One possibility is that Crippen murdered someone else and those were the remains discovered. Another possibility is that the celebrated investigators planted the evidence.”

Crippen was arrested on board ship as he tried to flee London for Canada accompanied by his mistress, disguised as a boy.

Whilst your stalement is correct, Idunno, the fact still remains that Dr. Crippen was found guilty on this evedence "Of the murder and dismembering of his wife".

Another prime example of British Justice at it's worse.
