Last summer, the 23-year-old Michigan resident was engaged in a Facebook battle with 20-year-old Danielle Booth.
Booth and Emery were both romantically interested in a man who was in prison. Emery posted about him repeatedly on her Facebook page, and the two apparently insulted each other on Facebook as well. Things soon moved offline: Soon before their final confrontation, Booth filed a police report, saying that Emery was threatening her in person.
One day, the two "had a scuffle," according to Booth's uncle, who spoke with Michigan's Daily Tribune in July.
Then they ran into each other at McDonald's. Booth got into a car driven by her friend Alesha Abernathy, and Emery followed them. She rammed Booth and Abernathy's vehicle several times. During the chase, the two reached speeds of 90 miles per hour. At one point, Booth called 911 and told a dispatcher that a woman was following her and hitting her car.

Seconds later, in an attempt to get away, Abernathy ran a red light, and her Ford Taurus collided with a dump truck.Abernathy later died, while Booth was seriously injured. Emery pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, assault and child abuse. The child abuse charge stems from the fact that Emery's 3-year-old daughter was in the car with her during the pursuit.
At the sentencing hearing, Emery cried and told Abernathy's family, "I'm sorry I took somebody's life, and I pray every day that you'll ever forgive me."
"There were two beautiful girls and all over some man in prison," Angel Abernathy, Alesha's mother, said in court. "Was it worth it?"
One more thing: A woman who was a witness at the trial told the court that Emery's sister had been threatening her on Facebook.
