The Talk: A deer in distress
Is there anything that can make people forget about the Hon trademark? Try fining a couple of guys for going out and saving a deer that was stuck in the ice in the Patapsco.
We argue that this was foolhardy on the part of the Good Samaritans and that the Department of Natural Resources police were right to fine them for their dangerous behavior. After all, they might well have found themselves saving a couple of humans, not a stranded deer.
Our view, to put it mildly, is in the minority on this one.
Joe Moore of Baltimore calls the rescuers heroes and says the DNR police should be ashamed.
Ann Roberts of Lutherville says it's part of DNR's pro-hunting, anti-animal bias.
And Bob Miller of Westminster cites his own experience of out-of-control DNR police.
On the other side of the equation, commenter jdstree says if the men had drowned, we'd be looking at this in a very different light.
In case you're interested in other news, Senate Republicans are doing some inexcusable stalling on the New Start treaty, the energy industry is arguing against a pause in extraction of natural gas from shale deposits, a school principal makes the distinction between Maryland's high incomes and the question of whether it's the wealthiest state, and an advocacy group is calling for immediate measures to reduce Maryland commute times.
Oh, and there's plenty more to say about Cafe Hon -- including someone actually defending Denise Whiting.

I have mixed emotions on the Bambi story. A part of me thinks this story would never had made front page news if the cop would have just walked away. That being said, another part of me knows that Bambi can be more than a nuisance to our society. They can be downright dangerous and have no natural predators, other than man, to keep the population in tact. People are hungry, Venison meat is tasty.
As far as the Start treaty, I do think the Sun is being too harsh on the Republicans. Treaties are important and I do think they should take the time to get them right. We are dealing with Russia. Russia has been know to stab us in the back once or twice, especially when it comes to Iran.
Finally, Maryland may have been voted the wealthiest state, but I haven't seen any of that wealth, have you?

I believe that this proves that the government and authorities have gone too far! If I saw that deer in distress I promise I would of either been the first or joined into help! How are you going to tell me what I can rescue and or can't rescue, or even put myself in danager or not! As long as Im not risking the safety of anyone besides my life, I have the right to do as I believe in! Enough is enough...Stop trying to control every lil thing in ppls lives!!!!! If that cop would have just let the poor ppl alone this wouldnt be as big of a deal as it is!
