How To Change Mouse Cursor on Windows XP PC

Though there are many more perks to having an online job, there is one major disadvantage that has many people annoyed.  These jobs entail sitting in front of the computer at hours on end, which can sometimes push you to the brink of insanity.

But you need not go insane. One way to amuse yourself or at least make things more bearable at your workstation or room is by personalizing your computer screen and perking it up with snazzy add-ons and plug-ins like cute icons, pop up post its, and a funky mouse cursor. It may not seem like much but a small change goes a long way.

Instead of the boring color wheel or spinning hourglass, why not opt for a cute animated dinosaur that appears every time you click a button? You can personalize your system, so that it will suit your taste, and not just be another bland white or grey mouse.

People decorate their tables to make the workspace feel more “homey” so why not do the same and customize your desktop or computer? An easy step towards spicing up your desktop is changing your mouse cursor. You have thousands of choices, from the built-in cursors to cursor packs you can download from the Internet.

Here’s how to do it on Windows XP PC.

  • Click on the “Start” menu, scroll up and select the “Control Panel” menu.
  • Open the “Printers and Other Hardware” icon. Numerous other icons will appear. Look for the icon of the “Mouse” among them and then click.
  • The Mouse properties window will pop up. Look for the tab labeled “Pointers” and then click.
  • Select the scheme you wish to use in the drop-down list. There are a number of new schemes you can choose from. Be aware that by selecting a particular “scheme” you are changing ALL of your pointers. If you would like to change only one specific cursor, go to the tabs and select from the list labeled “Customize.” Upon pressing the “Browse” button, a new window pops up which shows a list of cursor icons. Choose which one you like for that particular pointer.
  • Once you have the mouse settings as you like. Click the “Apply” button to save changes and then press the “Ok” button to close the dialog box.

To further customize you cursors, click on the tab labeled “Pointer Options.” Here you can adjust the pointer speeds and select visibility options. You can play around and experiment. Just make sure that with every change you don’t forget to click the “Apply” and “Ok” buttons to save the settings.

Tips. Though there are a lot of choices for schemes available already in Windows, if you would like more variety, you can download mouse pointer designs from the Internet. You can download both static and animated icons. You can also buy a pointer power pack at an affordable price at the computer software stations. Downloading is preferred as you can get icons for free online. Enjoy customizing and personalizing your desktop!
