Who Set Up Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift? Gwyneth Paltrow Reacts to Rumors

Now who would be surprised that people are interested in just how 'Love and Other Drugs' star Jake Gyllenhaal and country-music sweetheart Taylor Swift became an item? Gwyneth Paltrow, that's whom.

Amid reports that she hosted a private dinner in London in mid-November for the young lovebirds (Gyllenhaal's 30; Swift turned 21 last week), the Oscar winner and 'Country Strong' star now seems skittish about the topic, according to USA Today.

"Where is this coming from?" said Paltrow, before acknowledging, "I've just known Jake for a long time and he's a great guy...and Chris [Martin, Paltrow's husband and lead singer of Coldplay] has a friendship with Taylor."

But did a dinner at her home actually trigger the romance? Paltrow confirms it...almost.

The 38-year-old mom of two admitted: "Well, I'm scared to say. It's so weird, I wonder how people find out these things. It was a while ago, so I don't know why it would come out today."

A source told Us earlier this month about the discreet dinner date across the pond: "Jake and Taylor were driven from the Dorchester hotel to Gwyneth and Chris Martin's house in Primrose Hill for dinner....Gwyneth seems to have played a role in their relationship." The following week after spending time getting to know Gyllenhaal at Paltrow's place, Swift made a last-minute trip to Brooklyn to celebrate Thanksgiving with her new beau and his big sis, Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Swift, famous for penning songs about her love life, might just be writing a thank-you ditty for her A-list friend (assuming the singer's latest romance continues to be as rosy as rumored). Wonder what she can rhyme with "Gwyneth"?

It's funny that Taylor can date all these older guys including players like John Mayer and nobody bats an eye. When Miley does it people act like it's a crime. I don't get why everyone thinks Taylor is so sweet and innocent and a better role model. She just hides things better. And I'm not hating, it's her life. I have all Taylor's CDs. Just sayin'

Back in the 30s and 40s Hollywood publicists would contrive these "romances" as part of promoting a movie or keeping someone's name in the news. Jennifer Aniston is still very good at this, although she actually sleeps with the guy. But for some weird reason, Swift, Inc. has adopted this formula, when they really don't need to. I don't think that she's anymore attached to them than you are to today's newspaper. So she's either lying to herself, or lying to us. Either way, that's not good.

Oh, I thought It was JAKE Gylenhaal, and TAYLOR Lautner, if anyone could make that happen (in public) it would be Gweneth, she would know, after all shes "married" to Chris Martin.
