Lady Gaga Among Celebs Cheering DADT Repeal

A slew of stars from music, TV and movies couldn't hold back their happiness on Saturday after the U.S. Senate voted to repeal the military policy known as Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Lady Gaga, who actively
campaigned in 2010 against DADT, celebrated with her fans as soon as she learned the news.
The Grammy winner
tweeted to over six million followers: "Can't hold back the tears + pride. We did it!! Our voice was heard + today the Senate REPEALED DADT. A triumph for equality after 17 YEARS.
Today I am so proud to be American. I wish I was home so I could throw a Parade. We are on the way...to full equal."
The DADT policy, in effect since 1993, failed to protect gay men and women in the service from being kicked out for refusing to hide their sexual orientation. As it comes to an end, Lady Gaga is hardly alone in her excitement (Senator Harry Reid made sure to
tweet directly to Gaga: "We did it! #DADT is a thing of the past")
. 'Modern Family' star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, pop princess Katy Perry, comic Kathy Griffin, and many more -- including President Obama -- joined the Twitter party to talk about the news.
Ellen DeGeneres
said, "Thank you Senators for pushing us one step closer towards full equality."
Kelly Osbourne
tweeted, "Today is an amazing day I could not have woken up to better news. The senate repealed DADT...this is a huge step towards equality for all."
Katy Perry
rejoiced by retweeting Pink, "SUPPORTING ALL OUR TROOPS! RT @Pink: Congrats 2 US!!! REPEAL of DADT & 17 years of allowing Human Rights Violations. There's hope after all."
Bravo's 'What What Happens: Live' host Andy Cohen
declared, "HOLY EQUALITY! Yes, Gays, there is a Santa Claus."
Kathy Griffin
tweeted, "FINALLY! Equality IS coming!"
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Emmy nominee for 'Modern Family,'
wrote, "Stepping closer to Equality! Good Job America!!!! Don't Ask Don't Tell closer to being on the 'Remember-how-crazy-it-was-when...' list!"
Cyndi Lauper
said, "Historic day. 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' repealed. It's about time. Step by step we're headed towards full equality."
Neil Patrick Harris
tweeted, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell REPEALED! So proud of Congress for making the right decision. Now all soldiers can serve with integrity. A great day."
Rosario Dawson cheered the DADT repeal, but felt it could have been accompanied by even better news, regarding the DREAM Act (a bill which would have granted citizenship to thousands of foreign-born minors, but failed to pass in the Senate this weekend). Dawson
said: "Senate repealed DADT 65 -31. Finally! Sadly it is a bittersweet day for civil rights, alright. #DREAMAct."
Of course, President Obama
weighed in on the topic, telling Twitter followers: "By ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' no longer will patriotic Americans be asked to live a lie in order to serve the country they love."

Now lets see these people put this much effort into standing up for the First Responders to 9/11. These Men and Women rushed to help without any precaution to their own safety and now they are fighting for the Medical Coverage for their Medical needs just as hard as they are for their live's. Time to Unite and Fight for those who put their live's on the line for others.

At one time, the Wichita Police Department questioned applicants about sexual orientation. I don't know if they still do.
She ain't no Lady Gaga is about as engaging as a slice of bologna. Listening to one minute of her monotone makes one run to the TV and search for stimulation by Partridge Family reruns.

Na, are you OK? Sounds as if you've been doing bong hits with Miley.
This is a sad day indeed....not a single one of these so called " stars " has any personal stake in any of this ....they could care less that these homosexuals are in danger !!

With all respect, I think you underestimate the military. You seem to imply that our people in uniform will have a knee jerk reaction and beat the H out of gay soldiers, marines, etc. The research was pretty intense and the young generation is much more accepting of gay people. I live in Washington and have dealt with military staff at the Pentagon- I know of one admiral who is gay, and have been told the number of gays in the military is significant. If the Israeli Defense Force, and just about every other military can make it work, I can't imagine discipline falling apart on this issue.
WTF do ANY of these people know or care about our military?

Have any of these people served their country? It's fine for the gays, but what about the rights of the straight servicemembers who will still be forced to shower/bunk with them? It's better not to know. I have no problem with gays serving, but they should not be permitted to shower/bunk with the same sex. It's no different for me (as a woman) to shower/bunk with a lesbian that it would be for me to do the same with a straight man. No one has the right to feel sexually intimidated during various states of undress/vulnerablity. Yes, I know that many gays are quietly serving and doing all of this already, but I either don't want to know about it or if it's known, not be forced into these sort of situations. If *everyone's* rights aren't protected, then it's not right. Only the military should have been polled about this -- each and every servicemember - and no one else. Civilians need to be kept out of it. The military's entire vote should have been the only deciding factor.

See what I mean? I get the "lowest rank", all because I'm trying to address straight rights, as well. It's fine and dandy for the gays to have rights, just not anyone else, huh? I even stated that I have no problem with gays openly serving (and I don't).....agreeing that they should be afforded the same right to serve their country as everyone else. But I want the straight people serving to not be forced to be in intimate-type settings with others who may be viewing them sexually at their most vulnerable. It's why showers and bunking situations aren't co ed. It's funny that everyone wants cheerleading for gays and their rights, but are just as close minded about straight rights that *we're* accused of having about gays. Equality and fairness for *all*, not "just" the gays.
Oh, right. That's why gays go into the military...to look for f-buddies.
If you don't want to serve with gays, there are other jobs out there.
Personally, I would not want to serve with bigots and rednecks but I
don't get to make that choice.. just like I don't get to pick my
coworkers. That's life.
I would like to make a correction.. The military is not in the practice of having Soldiers/marines sleep in the SAME bunk as another nor do they shower at the same time using the same shower head. At basic training we showered in the same shower room but we never shared the same shower head at the same time. And after training is all said and done with, we are given our separate quarters .. I DONT SHARE A BED WITH ANYONE.. (Navy might due the lack of space available on ships.. but service members DO NOT sleep together on the same bed at the same time. **** Hopefully what ever i just said makes some sort of sense.
WTF!!! civilians should be kept out of it? Who the hell do you think pays your salary.
Let's see now. Just how many of these "celebrities" have served in the military where all men in the platoon shower in one open shower room and often walk around the barracks nude on the way to that shower? I am sure this is really going to boost the moral of the troops to knowingly have gays praying they will drop the soap!!!

Lady Gaga will now be on Army recruitment posters. I think most of her dancers have signed up this weekend for a hitch in Iraq and Afghanistan.

well, of course anyone who has NEVER been in the military would want DADT repealed. they don't have a clue. what do you think is going to happen when a couple of straight GIs walk into the latrine and see two of those "guys" rump riding in the showers. they will make those 'guys' wish they would have kept it to themselves in private.
