JDK 7

The primary goal of this Project is to produce an open-source implementation of the next major revision of the Java SE Platform.

Detailed information on the approved features can be found on the features page. The JDK 7 development schedule is divided into a sequence of milestone cycles. Please see the builds and integrations page for detailed build and integration scheduling. A complete calendar of the entire development timeline is also available.

Status: Replan nearly complete; high-level dates set

We are replanning JDK 7 according to the "Plan B" proposal with the goal of accelerating its release as much as possible while also maintaining high quality. In order to achieve this, features that need more time to mature have been deferred to JDK 8 or later releases as explained here. A handful of small, high-impact features which were not previously part of the plan but are finished have been added to the release.

The feature list has been updated and at this point is not expected to change. The milestone schedule will be updated soon, but in the meantime here is the high-level schedule for the remainder of the release:

2010/12/16 Feature Complete
2011/04/12 Rampdown start: P1-P3 bugs only
2011/04/28 API/interface changes: Showstoppers only
2011/05/11 All targeted bugs addressed
First release candidate built
2011/05/18 Bug fixes: Showstoppers only
2011/06/08 Final test cycle starts
2011/07/28 General Availability
